I have another theory about the acid incident.

Cordelia practiced Black Magic with her husband as an attempt to get pregnant, and its known that Black Magic has consequences. Either it could be someone from a Satan-worshiper group (Illuminati?) or someone from Madam Laveau coven's. What hinted me for this was that when her husband touched her hand, Cordelia woke up screaming and flashbacked her sex ritual with him.

Or in another theory, it could be her husband that burned her face so that she would not "see" any one but him forever. He rubs me off as the obsessed type and he could be sick mentally.
