Ja Rule got a lot of flack from being emotional and singing. IIRC, it was DMX who started the hate train against Ja Rule singing. I do agree that it's cool to be a whiny mess in hip hop thanks to Kanye West, but singing in rap didn't start with him.
Well, yeah I don't mean he started it. I meant he popularized it. It's not really the singing that's a problem. I just think hip hop is synonymous with the streets and struggles/hardship and the genre just doesn't have the same feel now that alot of it is very alternative and emo sing/rap in sound.

On July 29, 2013, a big golden truck driving in Los Angeles revealed the album's title as Prism and that it would be released on October 22, 2013.[47] "Roar" was announced to be the lead single on August 2, 2013. The truck made stops through varies cities in the US, however, on August 9, 2013, the truck was hit by a drunk driver in Pennsylvania. After hearing the news, Perry tweeted that "She is a champion! She will return".[48] On August 20, 2013, Pepsi revealed a partnership with Perry: fans were given the opportunity to unlock song titles, lyrics, and snippets from Prism by tweeting the hashtag #KATYNOW. Two samples of the songs "Dark Horse" (featuring rapper Juicy J) and "Walking on Air" were later revealed on the promotional hotsite, where the fans could vote for the song they wanted to have an early release on iTunes, on September 17, 2013.[49] At the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on August 25, 2013, "Dark Horse" was declared the winner.[27]
Three listening parties for the album were hosted. On September 5, 2013, one was hosted in New York, open exclusively to an audience of 100 industry insiders and journalists, where twelve tracks were played ("Roar", "Walking on Air", "Unconditionally", "Dark Horse", "Double Rainbow", "Legendary Lovers", "Birthday", "This Is How We Do", "International Smile", "Ghost", "Love Me", and "By the Grace of God").[15] The album cover, shot by Ryan McGinley, was on September 6, 2013 on Good Morning America.[50] A second Prism listening party took place later that day in Atlanta,[18] while a third took place September 12, 2013 in Los Angeles at the Hammer Museum. During the last Prism party, all the tracks on the album's standard edition were played, including "This Moment" being played for the first time.[20] During the last Prism party, the album's tracklist was revealed[51] and later verified through Amazon.fr on September 21, 2013.[52]
On August 12, 2013, during an On Air with Ryan Seacrest interview, when asked if she will miss anything from the Teenage Dream era, she replied: "I'll probably be integrating it in a new way especially when I go on tour next year. It will just be kind of an evolved version of Teenage Dream. And when you see me on tour, you're always going to get the songs you want to hear..... I'm not deserting any of it".[53] She will begin a tour to promote the album in May 2014.[54]
"Dark Horse" featuring Juicy J was released on iTunes as the first promotional single on September 17, 2013. After two days of sales, "Dark Horse" debuted at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and inside the top ten at number ten itself on the New Zealand Singles Chart.[55] Perry first performed "Dark Horse" on September 20, 2013 at iHeartRadio Music Festival.[40] "Walking on Air" was released on iTunes as the second promotional single on September 30, 2013.[56] Perry also headlined for closing the iTunes Festival on September 30, 2013, where she performed "Roar", "Dark Horse", "Walking on Air", and "By the Grace of God". On October 17, 2013, Prism became available for streaming online.[57]
On the day that Prism was released worldwide, Perry performed her Prism tracks for the first time at the iHeartRadio theater in Los Angeles.[44] She also performed them the next day, where she hosted the "We Can Survive" concert along with Bonnie McKee, Kacey Musgraves, Sara Bareilles, Ellie Goulding, and duo Tegan and Sara at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California.[45]
