I imagine iTunes will revise the preorder chart policy after things like this tho. This will end up abused like crazy.
People will start putting up preorders before the lead single is released just to guarantee a #1 and large debut even if the song otherwise wouldn't do that great. And then it'll suffer a massive blow in the 2nd week.
Also, wouldn't the preorders being counted towards the chart be considered double dipping in a way? If I understand correctly, they show a sale of the album (preordered) AND a sale of the single even though they only actually made a sale of the album.
