While you were daydreaming your way through that morning meeting, we had a good old chinwag with Aussie rapper Iggy Azalea. She’s in London celebrating the release of her new single Change Your Life with a super-glam party at Supperclub tonight, so it was only right that she give us a buzz to talk Fashion Week, nan-friendly clothes and her secret talent. You’ll never guess what it is, but you’re welcome to try.
In relation to clothes, how little is too little?
‘I think it depends on what you’re wearing and your body shape. Sometimes I see a girl in a mini dress that only just covers her butt, but she may be really slender so it looks fashionable and more about her legs. I’m a bottom-heavy person so I don’t feel comfortable wearing a dress that’s too much above the knee, but I’ll wear short shorts on stage. And, I feel differently about it then because of the environment.’
Is there anything in your wardrobe that you wouldn’t wear to meet your nan?
‘Most things! My grandma is pretty cool, but I’d still keep 80% of my wardrobe clear of her.’
Did you make any new pals at Fashion Week?
‘I got to meet Ciara at the Pucci party and she was so sweet. And, I hung out a lot with Anna Dello Russo as we attended a lot of the same shows in Paris. She’s absolutely amazing and hilarious, she’s very cool.’
Do you have any red carpet regrets?
‘I have millions of “Why did you wear that in public?” regrets. One terrible one that used to be on my Wikipedia page was when I wore a checkered print skirt with black heels that I glued green feather boas to. It was f*cking awful and I don’t know why the f*ck I would wear that, but I did. Just don’t do it, don’t glue feather boas to your shoes.’
So, what are you going to wear for Halloween this year?
‘I’m going to be Cruella de Vil with a great big tacky fur coat. Who doesn’t want one of those? I’m very excited.’
What’s your tip for walking in heels?
‘Make sure they fit you. There’s nothing worse than a girl whose shoes really don’t fit and they look like a T-Rex tiptoeing down a footpath.’
What are you good at that nobody else knows about?
‘I used to play soccer for my state in Australia and I’m pretty good at tennis, too. I always have my rackets at home as I can always manage to find someone to come and play with me.’
Who would play you in a film about your life story?
‘I don’t know who would be able to put on my Australian accent! I guess a nice blonde like Scarlett Johansson. She’s way more beautiful than I am, but you always want to have someone that looks better than you so I’d say her.’
