This was a weakly promoted sequel to a film (that was based on a fake trailer) that performed poorly at the box office 3 years ago.... And it is apart of a genre of film (Grindhouse) that never caught on with the public in the first place. Grindhouse barely scraped $25 Million in 2007, Machete hardly managed $26 Million in 2010....
The expectations were really low and it was clearly made just for fun. However, they failed to even meet those low expectations due to s****y promo. This film's whole promo plan was focused on it's ridiculous stunt casting (Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Sophia Vergara, Gaga, ect...) but complete;y avoided normal promo avenues (like say TV interviews).
The movie was fun overall, but definitely for a niche audience only. (Gaga was actually pretty pointless, Amber Heard as Miss San Antonio was the true scene-stealer of the movie.)

All in all, I'm just sad it didn't do better for Amber Heard's sake. She's such a flawless actress who keeps picking the wrong movies to be involved with. Girl can't catch a break. (It's a pretty abysmal number for Gaga's film debut, but like I said, you can't place all the blame on her.)

You can't place any blame on her. The performance of this film has nothing to do with whether or not shes a box office draw, she was billed as a cameo from the get go and as you said these movies have never been received well. They're fun over the top action comedies meant to be ridiculous.
The people trying to blame Gaga or drag her for it or expected her to be the cameo that pulled it to the top are illogical. They're just scraping for excuses to hate on her or say shes pathetic.
