No, it doesn't work like that. All of the movies above were considered "blockbusters" and received major promo moreso than Machete Kills. Popstars don't sell movies, movies sell movies.

This is karma to Little Monsters, when reports came in that The Smurfs 2 flopped the LMs dragged Britney for filth and when the Army defended by saying "how would a song save the movie" the Little Monsters would say that "it doesn't matter, it was still MARKETING using a big name!"

Now the exact thing happens here. They marketed this with Gaga's name all over it, regardless of the screentime.

Grossed $61,2M on a $10M budget. Not bad for an indie flick!



Katy's first movie grossed half a billion. And the 2nd one made back its budget 2x over with $340m

All of these pop stars were heavily promoted and were supposed to be a draw for their respective movies. Stop making excuses for Gaga. The only one I didn't hear much of was Rihanna and Battleship so I guess we can't blame her for that.
