The amusing thing is that there are teens and queens in here acting like a career is made from chart peaks, and that a popstar must always be on top to maintain a legacy.
Reality check, kids:
If you think for a second that #1s now guarantee career security, you're roaring up the wrong tree. Perseverance, self-reliance and loyalty are what keep you in the game after decades.
If your fave has the drive to fight hard indefinitely, they're in with a chance. If your fave isn't dependent on hitmakers to keep them relevant, they're in with a chance. If your fave has a dedicated fanbase who will fund a career through high profit ticket sales rather than low profit single sales, they're in with a chance.
The real test of a career is during the lows, and not the highs. Ask yourself...if the masses turned their back on your fave for an album or two...could they survive that? What would they sell? Charts? Tour? If they fell down the hitmakers rankings...could they write themselves a get-out-of-flopping free card?
