It wasn't. Out of all the pop stars, Britney has always been one of the few that has been really honest and genuine with the things she says. She even said in many interviews back then that her and Madonna aren't besties, and that they only talk once in a while. But she said she found her very inspirational because of how she managed her family/kids and career at the same time, and she also said Madonna gave her a lot of advice on the industry and how to be a good pop star. Madonna isn't Britney's influence musically or performance wise, sans controversy.
