I don't think she let it slip through her fingers. She probably really liked it (she must have if she bothered to record it) but in the end Bonnie decided she wanted it for herself. In the interview Bonnie said "lots of people cut it, Kelly Clarkson cut it and a few others but I just always wanted it for myself. I felt like I was destined to sing it. I just haven't figured out where to put it yet."

Damn that bitch for not giving Kelly a #1 but she can give Katy basically all of hers.

I took it as more of Kelly cut it, but turned it down which she was happy because she really liked it.

Or because it kept getting rejected. I mean she really was in no place to be passing up money a couple years ago. She was poor and even said she wished she wouldn't have gave up her idea for Teenage Dream, but she needed the money.Why have a bunch of artists cut it and then just go no to all of you mine. buuuuut that's just my way of looking at it.

I mean, it's a possibility, I just don't think so. Lots of songs/demos get shopped around and recorded by other artists but they ultimately need the writer to sign over the rights and sometimes the writer (esp. if they're also a singer) just doesn't want to. We'll probably never know with this one. I don't think Kelly would just pass on it though. She wouldn't record it if she didn't like it. Maybe the label didn't like it or it didn't fit the album. But then again, Kelly recorded Einstein, so obviously the lights aren't always on upstairs.

The label also chooses which songs make the final cut too. I remember Kelly saying she recorded the Selena Gomez song We Own The Night with Toby Gad but the label chose TWIO and Slaystein to go on the album over that song. So I wouldn't put all the blame on her.
