What did they actually do? I wasn't a stan back then so idk. I only know WTH had massive payola in Germany. It got played 2-3 times every hour on the biggest stations.

Do you remember they premiered WTH on New Years with a live performance and the song was available only after 2 weeks? This is just an example.

They didn't promote well WTH, it was a good song and they just used all the hype for the Avril's comeback, that's it.
I know Epic is terrible at the moment but you don't have to forget how RCA was, and not how it is right now.

Right? There's no point her having any artistic freedom because if she's proven anything this era it is that she hasn't an artistic bone in her body. At least RCA would have marketed and sold her right / well.

Avril performing on New Years was one of their best moves although giving it away for free was pointless. Still they did handle WTH pretty well overall and they seem a lot more together now (unless you're Legend X).

Jordin Sparks is in RCA too & her career is just one big right now.
Same about Dido & Leona Lewis. They also dropped Adam Lambert recently because he refused to make an album full of song covers.
RCA is one big bullying label, artists have no creative control. Hell even generic Kesha was not allowed to release what she wanted because it wasn't enough generic in RCA's opinion.

RCA is very good with some artists (Alicia, Pink, JT, Miley) tho...

Yes it was a good move but not if you release the song on Itunes after 2 weeks.
