A hipster will not admit to being a hipster, but they won't sing songs about "dressing up like a hipster" and talking about how you don't like "hipster music".

Just to clarify, She never said she didn't like hipster music. "And you would hide away and find your peace of mind, with some indie record that's much cooler than mine" is this what you are misinterpreting??
Taylor actually loves hipster music and Joni Mitchell is one of her idols. She's even wrote a song about her.

I don`t know where you have lived for the past 8 years but Taylor Swift has written Grammy AOTY worthy album already in her career. Plus she has numerous other very impressive accolades for her songwriting.
But i agree that she has some way to go to reach the level of 3 names in the OP. That is why i formulated the question will she be...
Lots of critics have seen potential for that kind of career path for her. I tend to agree.

Taylor is the most loved mainstream audience among hipsters? Where are you getting this stat from? Is there a chart? And if they do like her, it's not because she's the closest to alternative, it would be out of irony. And are we talking about hipsters who are 12-20?

Both come from wealthy East Coast families, both highly emotional, romantic types, both dated a lot of hot, famous guys and wrote songs about them. But artistically, she reminds me of Carole King; I think they have a similar approach to songwriting. I don't see any Joni in Taylor, but maybe I need to read further
Back to December and All Too Well are two songs of Taylor's that I think would fit seamlessly onto the Tapestry album. And I don't know how much you know about Carole King's music but she wrote a lot of fun pop songs. I see You Belong With Me as something Carole might have written for one of her girl groups.
|
I just listened to those songs so I could accurately comment back. I do feel like they could fit on Tapestry, but only because they are watered down versions of what Tapestry is. I don't see them as being as good as So Far Away, I Feel the Earth Move, You've Got a Friend, etc.
And I am very familiar with Carole's work, and yes, Carole wrote fun pop songs but they weren't for herself. But either way, the issue of her doing pop really isn't the issue.

What does that have to do with it?

How can you judge and compare these artists when you have so little knowledge to do so.
I canīt believe i have to spell it out for you.

So you are basically admitting you are unfamiliar with Taylor's music
No shade, but if you don't know her music how is it fair to argue that she'll never be as good of an artist as Carole King?!

What is the issue? I see Taylor as being a very similar songwriter to Carole. I don't think it matters whether Carole wrote songs for herself or for others. I'm comparing them as songwriters, not artists.

Except when you asked me how many Taylor songs I knew, you quoted me questioning Taylor being loved by hipsters. That has absolutely nothing to do with comparing and judging artists so yes, you did have to spell it out for me because what you were referring to and what I was talking about are two separate things.

Hmm... I'm torn between Carly and Joni.
I think she's an equal mixture of both.

Well yes, I have not listened to all her albums back to back. Admitting I don't know 2 songs does not mean I don't know her music. But I have heard enough to get a picture of her as an artist, just as I have not listened to all of Carole's albums but know what she is as an artist.

What? Are you honestly comparing me to Hitler? hah.
I don't think that its illogical to claim you understand artistry is if you've listened to several of their songs. If not let's end this discussion and come back when we've listened to every one of Joni, Carole and Carly's albums.

Okay, but Back To December was one of her singles, and since you are familiar with her as an artist you would think.....
You seem to have a lot more knowledge of Carole than that of Taylor, seeing how you can bring up multiple songs of Carole's, yet when someone brings up two of Taylor's songs, you do not know them. You stated on your first post that Taylor's songs are "juvenile", will you please name the songs that you are referring to??

I think it's a possibility although she's a lot more mainstream than them.

Bigger than all of them to be honest. I wouldn't be surprised if she ends her career as the second most-successful writer of all time. Notably, the writer I see her compared to time and time again nowadays is Brian Wilson.

No problem. Juvenile Taylor songs:
- You Belong With Me
- Love Story
- Today Was a Fairytale
- Hey Stephen
- Mean
- We Are Never Getting Back Together
- 22
- I Knew You Were Trouble
Also I don't have to know every one of her singles to get an idea of what she's like as an artist. I do admit I am more familiar with Carole though.

Just to be clear, I don't hate Taylor, I don't think she's talentless, I don't think she may not be on par with Carole (or these other women) one day. I just think she needs to mature in her music content a bit, make it less gossipy/juvenile. But that is obviously just my taste as she is immensely popular.
I don't mean to argue with you guys.
