Quoting Bieber, "it's all fun and games, 'till someone gets hurt."
The "someone" here is Her image & longevity.

I would agree with this more but..your sig...
Miley cyrus: all about spectacle and media, not the music In my opinion. Same could be said for other entertainers. They all got their human weaknesses and shortcomings.
She's gonna follow her own path with input from those she associates with. We can't live her life for her or know everything about why she does what she does.

I'd be here for music without the commercialization, over-produced concerts and celebrity... but the money speaks. She's no less susceptible to it than anyone else

Idk, I feel like that day would come. But not yet. Or that She's not ready for it just yet.
Tho, I assume She'd listen to some of the crits who put up a challenge for Her to cut down the commercialisation a bit.

but her concerts are life. they're rehearsed to be overly dramatic because that's what her personality is. would be a huge mess if everything was spontaneous.

I've never gotten the impression that Taylor wants to be only a musician, not a star. She's said herself that she would be playing music in a coffee shop if she didn't want this level of fame and success.
I love Taylor's music first and foremost, but the cult of celebrity is a huge part of what makes someone a music legend. Look at the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. The music is remembered as being great, yes, but the image was there, too and they were tabloid fixtures in their youth. I do like seeing Taylor dressed up to the nines at events, I like getting to see pap shots of her on her off days and I like speculating about who she loves and who she hates.
Basically, I want her to leave behind a brilliant catalogue of music, but I also want her biography to be really juicy gossip, too.

Tbh, Her shows when She was hitting festival & small venue circuit >
And @Red Guard - But sis, the whole celebrity and gossip thing is not doing her work any favour. Not now, not in the long run.
The cult of personality is just... eh. Beatles, Stones, MJ, Elvis and the others are actually not that great tbh. They stole a lot. Too many ******** and great PR machines with them, to cover the actually mediocre music.

I feel like her sound would have to change dramatically for her to go to small venues too. Don't want to open the vocals can of worms but I think you guys know what I mean

Not really, watched some footage from past performances at the small venues, she actually excelled at it, even tho Her vocals were untrained. Skittles, who actually studied music, thinks the same.

I don't think the celebrity thing will harm her much in the long run. Time is very kind to artists. Didn't Joni, Carly, etc. get dragged a lot in the media for all their boyfriends? I haven't made it all the way through Girls Like Us yet, but I remember some reviewer claiming Taylor had 'a Joni problem', i.e. too much focus on her lovelife.

OK, this is where we'll probably have a big disagreement, because I don't think Taylor's music is better than those artists. I think she's just about the only person today who's on par with them. Making music that is both massively popular and really connects with people personally, is not easy and is what I regard as Taylor's biggest strength as a songwriter. Somebody like Katy Perry can make catchy pop tunes that people buy en mass and then immediately forget. Somebody like Fiona Apple can really speak to her audience - but her audience is very small. Taylor can do both and only a handful of people in music have been able to.

I think the main reason smaller venues are not for her right now is because she is hugely theatrical with a fantastic imagination and she wants to come up with spectacular sets and effects. And I don't want to stop experiencing those (Haunted performance >>>>>). But I also love her set on the B stage, where it's just her and her guitar. She should keep doing both - that's what makes her Taylor, the Red Queen of Queens and the Lord of Lords.

The Joni problem is 100% true. She's better than Dylan, but she ended up seen as a '2nd rate legend' compared to him? That's utter ********. Imo, it has something to do with the media perception of her in the past. Rolling Stone was her own Tina & Amy in this case.
Taylor though, can be pretty wordy. But yes, connecting with a lot of ppl while still maintaining the quality is no easy job. It is not any less good than the acts the music zines stan for. Tho, I'd put Joy Division as the best artist of all time. But the Smiths & Taylor are equally good imo, lyrically. And then we also have Nirvana. True they have a lot of stinkers, but they still tried to put the music as their main priority, and not to let their star power to overshadow the music.
It does have a lot to do with mainstream publication's treatment at male & female artists. But, She can always do it Her way, if She wants to.
Btw, Fiona did play Z100 Jingle Ball in the past. And let's not forget the iconic MTV speech.

Id love to hear Taylors new songs in a quiet smaller atmosphere.
Maybe later she can do some sort of secret show thing. Like she'll have a show like once a week when shes off tour in a really small place, like a coffeeshop or small stage or something, and theyre only announced the day of and the first like 45 people are let in, they all get to meet Taylor, and it would be an awesome little scavenger hunt cuz your running around the city looking for clues as to where Taylor will be.
Cult legend

I don't know if that's true - Joni is very respected. But it's true female artists never get the accolades that men do . Most music publications are run by men and while women often list male artists as their favourite, it's much rarer for men to list women.

That's how I first heard of Fiona. I thought she was crazy. But then I read an interview with her where she explained why she did it and it actually made sense to me . I sought out her music because of that.
Fiona was quite a big star in the US with her debut, but she turned her back on that because she hated it. I think Taylor loves it. Some things about fame may get her down, but overall she loves it, IMO. She is young and she is still excited by glitz and glamour and being a popular girl. And there's nothing wrong with that.
