Janet's lyricism was so great from Control-The Velvet Rope albums. She talked about almost every issue you can think of ( love, break ups, friendships, loneliness, sex, independence, abstinence, racism, sexism, homophobia, education, drugs, online relationships, depression, interracial relationships, etc. etc.)

Yup. A very versatile song-writer.

I'm pretty sure of that.
Janet's diversity is underrated. I was shocked when I did my research and combed through her career, chapter by chapter. The variety is endless.

Janet was way more diverse than MJ lyrics wise while he did do some social commentary it was safe commentary. Janet went the extra mile and was ahead of her time and in some ways still is.

Safe, sis?
They Don't Care About Us is riskier than anything Janet has ever written, tbh.
Quote:
Beat me, hate me
You can never break me
Will me, thrill me
You can never kill me
Jew me, sue me
Everybody do me
Kick me, kike me
Don't you black or white me
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
Tell me what has become of my life
I have a wife and two children who love me
I am the victim of police brutality, now
I'm tired of being the victim of hate
You're raping me off my pride
Oh, for God's sake
I look to heaven to fulfill its prophecy...
Set me free

These are some extreme pop lyrics.

People know Michael was diverse, but they undermine Janet's diversity. That's really my issue. Everyone's already given MJ his props. When will they recognize what Janet's done? I know she's gotten legend awards, but it just seems like the overall scope of her career as an artist isn't appreciated enough. Maybe it's just me.

True.
She's the most underrated Queen. Seriously, after 2006, it's like someone simply erased all her accomplishments.
But you can't erase her influence.

This. The sad part is legacies tend to be restored when an artist dies. So Janet will leave the world underrated.

Cause you know those conservative was not having a black breast exposed on TV.
Sexism played a big part in why her career went downhill while JT got away unscathed when he exposed her.

Well, yeah, Michael didn't sing about LGBT issues, so I guess that's true. But I just don't think he was safe... at all.
But neither was Janet.

He wasn't safe at all i should have worded it better but i did not know how else to put it.
I meant compared to Janet it was more safer it was still risk taking though nonetheless.

I love that Solange is a Janet stan.
But she should fire her assistant for not knowing the scripture that is WITOY. I mean, it was Janet's first Hot 100 number 1.

Janet was more diverse than Michael. I know it's a hard pill to swallow. Janet was definitely ahead of her peers in terms of artistry and creatively..Especially in the 90's..except maybe Madonna, there was no one doing what she was doing. Her reinventions, sound, and image>>>>>>>>
