Adele is more responsible for it. As soon as she came back, people kept mentioning how she didn't need the gimmicks, etc (in reference to mostly Gaga) and basically the Gaga-style of things fell out of favor with the public, hence why BTW underperformed.

Katy is just cementing it and Adele will put her handprints in it come Spring/Summer next year.
