Katy and Gaga are very very similar...both have similar career origins (originally singer-songwriters in bars and clubs who had several reinventions and were dropped multiple times before finally attaching themselves to a power producer with a definitive style transformation), both have used the gays, both sing over basic dance pop beats and dress up in wacky outfits.
Katy just remained smart and humble about what kind of artist she is while Gaga got lost up her own ass in her attempt to be perceived as an ~artiste~. But the fact remains that her most definitive hit is still about just dancing with a music video that features inflatable orca humping.
