Yeah, I noticed the mistake after I had posted it.
Let me go look at the real figures.

I think people would rather get it all at once with the album and everything. But idk, maybe 1 of the next 2 singles is a radio-friendly club smash and they're saving it.

It definitely was, when they first announced it as a hip-hop single I wasn't sure what that meant in the context of K-pop (although YG usually has a good perception of what hip-hop is) but I was quite surprised when it was released by how urban it actually was.
I've said since the 2nd Mini Album era that it would just be better for them to release a single with an album like everyone else does. I understand that YG wants to be innovative and different, but there are better ways to go about that - like releasing 3 singles at once, as was done with To Anyone. Or he could even release a "buzz" single - something a few weeks before the album, which could be promoted with a different single. Idk, I just don't think releasing a different single every month and promoting it for 3 weeks is a wise promotional strategy with Korea's music industry being the way it is. It seems to shoot them in the foot both on music programs and in the Korean public's eyes, since it kills the hype around a new album. He should have learned that lesson when their 2nd Mini Album proved to be their lowest-selling album.
I think the next single should be a ballad, only because of how well Lonely did. Idk.

I have a feeling their next song will be a ballad.
If the title includes love again, though...

Do you mind showing me where you got this info from? GaOn still has the old receipts on their website (unless I'm not looking in the right place).

Wait, I didn't know Lonely smashed. I only really started following K-pop around the time IATB came out (which I actually hated at first, when I didn't know who they were. I find that really funny. ) so I never heard anything about their chart success before ILY. It's one of my favorite songs, so I really hope so.

I still don't understand what the difference between hitting #1 and hitting the roof on MelOn is.

No problem at all. This should work but if it still shows the old numbers maybe you need to restart your browser or something of that sort.

Also, did I Love You do well? I thought it was big but I also heard it underperformed.
And I heard somewhere that the 2NE1 album concept is "love" and for that reason, all of their new singles will be about love and feature the word in its title. I get this feeling that the next single is called Love Song, idk why.
Btw, does anyone know when 2NE1 recorded FIL and DYLM? I heard on AllKPop that they were recorded with ILY, which makes me wonder wtf the girls were doing for that year.

People have been doing the buzz single / pre-release thing this year to mixed results. In some cases (like Beast and Davichi) the buzz single actually ended up doing better than the promoted title track So that's sort of a risky strategy.
I loved the 3 singles at once thing and I think Korea is the perfect market to get away with something like that. K-Pop is the sort of industry where big hyped up events really pay off.
In any case, it's easy to lose sight of just how successful 2NE1 has been historically, and for releasing a song every month they're still doing solidly. People seem to forget their lowest charting song ever (It Hurts) made it to #4 That's a pretty incredible run!

It apparently sold 300k the first day alone, 950k in 11 days with a peak at #1. It was the best selling song of July as well. It's sold about 2.8 million copies by the end of the year.
The Japanese version even reached #5 on Oricon.
But this is with just a quick search, so I could be wrong.

That's happened for Beast a multitude of times but to hear that it's not only them that have had that issue makes me think it wouldn't work for 2NE1 either. I think it simply makes more sense for artists in Korea to release their singles with their albums because of how long that that strategy has been used in K-pop and, as a result, how effective it is. I wish YG would compromise and find ways to be inventive without hurting his artists' chances at chart domination. He's done it before!
It is definitely incredible and for that reason I think it makes this era seem less impressive. Nonetheless, their streak on the singles chart has been fantastic and it shouldn't be devalued simply because they're having a more difficult time this go round.
