Could it be that Capitol is just a better label at promoting their artists? Katy is literally everywhere and she's the primary iTunes banner that pops up when you open the store. Seems like Interscope didn't pay enough.
I don't think iTunes can go back on it after they've made arrangements with a label for a banner.
Nothing can beat the embarrassing Britney last sing though, we can all be thankful our faves aren't a mental patient with no permission whatsoever to go to the potty on her own.
If Applause doesn't do too well I won't be mad. I know Gaga will destroy Katy's album sales in a sec. That gives me a tremendous satisfaction. Because at the end that's what really matters isn't it?
