I'm still dumbfounded by the fact that radio is still such a big source for music consumption. Besides driving in a car, what is the purpose of radio these days? There are so many others way to obtain music and play it at your own convenience.

And radio (not just pop radio) has always played the same thing over and over. This isn't a new concept.

I didn't say it was a new concept. Radio supposedly used to play 4-5 Beatles songs per hour in 1964.

As for pop radio, I just pointed it out because it's generally more guilty of rapid over-consumption followed by abandonment. As Toby Keith says, "a big pop station might play a hit 100-plus times per week. A country station might play it 50 times. But they’ll play it forever.”

This is the digital era. People have smart phones and other types of media players. iPod isn't the only way to get the music you want.

Now is the best time for people to get the music they want and discover the music they like in other ways.

Radio is useful, but it's not the only dependent for music consumption.

Yeah, radio is only tolerable/useful while driving, otherwise.....who cares ?

It literally feels like they have a playlist of 10 songs playing 24. GMAR, Come & Get It, some trashy Far East Movement new single, Wake Me Up, Stay, Blurred Lines, Get Lucky, Treasure, I Love it, & Mirrors.
