Teenage Dream has sold closer to 6.5 million by now. This is known.
True. I just find it baffling.
Do they not think the standard edition sold/shipped anything in 2012?
I mean, the re-release wasn't put out until the end of March.
For as much as she milked it (2 years, movie, re-release, hit after hit), it's kind of pathetic that she didn't outsell Loud or BTW. Loud and BTW's promotion lasted only 6 months each. Can you imagine how much better Rihanna's sales would be if her eras were that long? Rihanna's eras are always aborted after the 2nd single.
People seem to forget that this is only Katys second album, it was her breakthrough as well. The third album tends to be the big seller for a lot of girls. And Rihannas eras are aborted because people stop buying that ****, not because she leaves them behind.
HIStory is the most promoted album ever. Again a two year long singles campaign, and they had damn status of MJ in cities around the world, that multi million TV spot with an army and **** that got so much controversy, HUGE music videos including the most expensive one of all-time, performances all around the world for most of the singles. Marketing for albums int he 90s was much bigger.
What is the most expensive?
I'm genuinely curious haha
In 1995, music pop star Michael Jackson and his record label, Sony Music, were preparing for the release of a new album – what would become Jackson’s HIStory: Past, Present & Future, Book 1. The project would become one of the most expensive music product promotions ever. Part of the plan for promoting this album came from Jackson himself. Reportedly, when record executives asked him what he thought might be done, Jackson told the Sony executives “build a statue of me.” Not only did Sony build one statue of Jackson – they built nine of them, each about 32 feet tall, constructed with steel and fibreglass. These Jackson statues – with Michael cast in military garb, bandolier across his chest, fists clenched at his side, gazing off into the distance – were placed strategically in European cities in June 1995. They became center pieces in an elaborate $30 million campaign to promote Jackson and his new album.

TD was her third album. Her first one sold a whopping 200 copies.
