Yes, it's pretty obvious she's the biggest now. Adele shouldn't be mentioned because we have no clue if she can sustain that success.

Yes. She's the biggest of our generation.
The biggest popstar baton went from Madonna to Britney and now to Gaga.
Adele is not a popstar. She's a songstress. Adult contemporary artists will often have blockbuster sales if their music takes off in a big way. This trend did not start with Adele though she did revive it bigtime.
I think Gaga's biggest competition and runner-up to most successful popstar of her generation title is Rihanna. Rihanna has accomplished alot in so little time as well and she is the first lady of the digital age/social media in a way. The difference is Gaga's numbers (in albums & tour gross) are more impressive overall.

Yes.
She's the only one from her generation to slay hard in each category simultaneously.

Except Adele would be lucky to have even half the talent, creativity, and quality of music that Norah has
This thread was clearly asking about actual POP STARS, and Gaga's main competition is Rihanna. Her maintained relevancy since 2005 is pretty impressive, but I'm not sure if she would be able to do it without yearly releases and toooons of singles. It's hard to compare someone with 2/3 albums and a handful of singles to someone with 7 albums and dozens of singles (plenty of which either have Just Dance success, or MTN floppage).
Overall I'd say Rihanna has (some) better numbers, but as a result of being in the game for way longer. Personally I think she would have an absolutely huge GGGB-style era again if she took a few years off, and then released a great album that people would be dying to hear. That might really win her the title of "current queen" or whatever you like to call it
Assuming ARTPOP doesn't flop, then it would seem Gaga is the most successful current pop star.

And Gaga would be lucky to have half the talent Adele has.

Of course, Queen/God of Pop. Her talent is divine and her songs supreme. Nobody can make songs like her.

OVERALL GaGa wins this battle, deal with it. She is the most successful pop star of this Generation, in second Rihanna. And Adele she's not even a pop star.

Gaga is selling at a much higher rate. Rihanna has nothing to do with the music either, she records it while artists like Gaga actually work and put an effort into it. Rihanna can't be compared to Gaga.

I can't believe some people are really trying to deny that Adele is a popstar. There really is a distorted view of popstars from people on this forum and it's embarrassing. Her music is soul-pop, it has pop hooks and pop melodies and it's aim is for mainstream top 40 appeal. That's why her music gets played on POP radio, why she's in pop categories at awards shows, etc. Just because she doesn't approach it the same way as everyone else doesn't take away from the fact that she's still pop. She considers herself pop, her labels consider her pop, etc, etc. There are different types of popstars, always have been, and that's why Adele's success is considered important by actual, relevant music executives (not deluded stans on forums) because she's opened the door for other types of pop singers to make their way back, and they have been lately, hence the shift and diversity in sound on POP radio.
And I cannot believe that someone in here even denied that pop is it's own genre. Is this how deluded some are because they don't want to have to come to terms with reality that Adele is, in fact, the most successful pop artist out right now? She's STILL selling, even while doing nothing at all for the past 6 months. Even if a majority of it is from one album that doesn't take away from the fact that with that one album she's been far more successful than everyone else with their multiple album efforts. And then to say no one cares about her, just her music, is really delusional and just another poor attempt at trying to discredit her.
You cannot distort facts and figures, or try to find ways to discredit someone's very obvious success to make it convenient for you or for your favorite artist. Because at the end of the day it doesn't hold up in the real world. Gaga doesn't have to be the most successful artist in order for her stans to feel validated. No one's attacking her, at least I'm not, but don't be delusional and lie to yourselves for pointless reasons that don't actually matter.
And if that was too long for you, oh well.

Definitely. Anybody who disagrees is stupid. Yes, S-T-U-P-I-D. The most successful pop star since Britney Spears.
