people took turn me on and starships and ran with it.
judgements were made before the album was released and people treated her unfairly, when all she was doing was catering to the audience she gained with super bass.

i still see not a damn thing wrong with what nicki did OVERALL. starships was just a dumb song to lead off the record. and IDGAF how much it sold.

The song wasn't dumb, the way the GP reacted was dumb.
Everyone was shocked just because Nicki did something different and made a big deal out of it.

Nicki did have buzz singles before starships even came out.

Starships was a dumb song. It was borderline idiotic. Listen to the lyrics. It's a nice song, but that's not the type of song you have as a lead single. It's not the type of track you have when you're trying to persuade people to purchase your album. It's 4x Platinum, but she's still recovering from the damage it did to her.

Nicki went from one of the most credible new rappers to a joke all because of that song + SH.

You don't realize the damage when it was happening. I know I didn't. But looking back, I can understand why the people who purchased PF and rocked with Nicki didn't with PFRR.

Pair that with her ridiculous fashion during that early-2012 time and you have a toxic combination.

All I am saying Starships wasn't the main problem to cause that era to go that way.

I enjoyed the performance so much (its one of my favorites(, but looking at it on a broader spectrum (how the GP viewed her), it damaged her badly.

It's was one of them. You're blinded by it going 4x Platinum, but I mean, Flo Rida has done that 282829292 times. There's a reason why people called her the female version of him in 2012.

Her going Pop wasn't the problem. Her going Pop and dumbing down her lyrics and sound were.

I didn't mean the song was dumb (I do, but that's not what I posted) - I meant it being the lead single was dumb.

The song didn't offer ANYTHING to Nicki fans. Even Whip It and the first verse of Pound The Alarm had more flow. It was just so RIDICULOUSLY pop and corny. No traces of Nicki like Masquerade or Va Va Voom showcased. The only dumber choice would have been Automatic. Like the song offered nothing.

Exactly. It was the wrong place, and the wrong time. She should've just did SS, despite what the Grammy Committee wanted. (even though this would've been worse, or had the same effects)

I think people were really expecting her to represent up there. So many people were excited to see not only a rapper, not only a black rapper, but a black female rapper killing it at the Grammys.

When I see it from the perspective of someone who isn't a super fan, I TOTALLY see the outrage to expect this hard hitting and potentially historic performance and then she gets up there with the goofy exorcism antics and a theatrical track.
