1. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals - Apologies
Love is not lasting forever...
The song is about trying to find an apology because of cheating from both sides. The song is filled with sadness around it and it is made with such lyricism. I think it's one of the best sad songs ever made by Grace Potter and by anyone
2. Imagine Dragons - Demons
...but they were back together, until the disease came...
In this song is a story about the dark side that everyone has when it comes to diseases. The singer says that his lover should not fall in love with him due to his "demons". They both suffer, but the disease is more powerful. This is very personal to me as someone recently had cancer and died and I loved her very much and I miss her so much
3. Audiomachine - Guardians At The Gate
...and the disease was stronger and the death came. Here they were between the gate of the heaven and the gate of the hell...
I feel that this song is very dark and sad as I feel like it lends me into the other world and that this is what you would feel if you were between the gates of heaven and hell. There is so much tension around it and power and also afraidness of being send in hell. What's good about this song is that it can make yourself have your own interpretation.

When I thought about sadness and what other emotions relate to
or originate from it, I found that it is often connected with loneliness and the feeling of
isolation. My trinity focuses on that one aspect, but the three songs each deal with it
in a different way - it's three different stages of isolation, a climax, starting out pretty
tame but ending in the extreme.
The Vines | Autumn Shade
~ melancholy ~
What I love about this song is the melancholy vibe it radiates.
It has a happy sadness to it, that feeling where you feel some-
where in between those two without actually knowing why -
where you daydream and want to sleep for days, hiding from
the world, but it's not really a bad thing. It's the state of isolation
where you're somewhat sad but still content being on your own.
+++
The Smiths | How Soon Is Now?
~ hopelessness ~
Moving forward to the next stage, this classic Smiths song has a
much sadder, already hopeless undertone. It deals with lone-
liness as a result of being unable to interact and connect with others.
It's an unwanted isolation as opposed to in the first song, you long
for human contact but it's impossible so you spend your life alone,
which is one of the saddest things that can happen to someone.
+++
Michael Andrews & Gary Jules | Mad World
~ depression ~
Completing the trinity is this calm but haunting tune where the
isolation has reached its peak: Having lost the connection to the
people around you completely, you only see the world from a
distance like an outside spectator. You think it's a mad place.
You're so depressed and apathetic to your surroundings that
you don't even feel anything anymore except in your dreams.
Not only do these songs tie together nicely because they touch on the same theme,
what they also have in common is that they are extremely powerful because of the
way the music embodies and reflects the lyrics and mood in each of these songs.
I think that's really important, especially in songs that are sad, that they can touch the
listener and make them relate to and just feel the same sadness the artist felt.

4 In The Morning - Gwen Stefani
Lyrics
Waking up to find another day
The moon got lost again last night
But now the sun has finally had its say
I guess I feel alright
But it hurts when I think
When I let it sink in
It's all over me
I'm lying here in the dark
I'm watching you sleep, it hurts a lot
And all I know is
You've got to give me everything
Nothing less cause
You know I give you all of me
[CHORUS]
I give you everything that I am
I'm handin' over everything that I've got
Cause I wanna have a really true love
Don't ever wanna have to go and give you up
Stay up till Four In The Morning and the tears are pouring
And I want to make it worth the fight
What have we been doing for all this time?
Baby if we're gonna do it, come on do it right
All I wanted was to know I'm safe
Don't want to lose the love I've found
Remember when you said that you would change
Don't let me down
It's not fair how you are
I can't be complete, can you give me more?
And all I know is
You got to give me everything
And nothing less cause
You know I give you all of me
[CHORUS]
I give you everything that I am
I'm handin' over everything that I've got
Cause I wanna have a really true love
Don't ever wanna have to go and give you up
Stay up till Four In The Morning and the tears are pouring
And I want to make it worth the fight
What have we been doing for all this time?
Baby if we're gonna do it, come on do it right
Oh please, you know what I need
Save all your love up for me
We can't escape the love
Give me everything that you have
And all I know is
You got to give me everything
And nothing less cause
You know I give you all of me
[CHORUS]
I give you everything that I am
I'm handin' over everything that I've got
Cause I wanna have a really true love
Don't ever wanna have to go and give you up
Stay up till Four In The Morning and the tears are pouring
And I want to make it worth the fight
What have we been doing for all this time?
Baby if we're gonna do it, come on do it right
(Give you everything)
(Give you all of me)
Gwen Stefani on this tracks sings in a melancholy voice about going into a relationship knowing that there is a strong possiblity that something can, and will go wrong. So she sings about you having to give "everything" in, and she wants to make it worth it. She gives it her all but he does not, hence why she is sad in this song because she really wants her true love.
Strange Fruit - Nina Simone
lyrics
Southern trees
Bear strange fruit
Blood on the leaves
And blood at the roots
Black bodies
Swinging in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hangin'
From the poplar trees
Pastoral scene
Of the gallant south
Them big ******* eyes
And the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolia
Clean and fresh
Then the sudden smell
Of burnin' flesh
Here is a fruit
For the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather
For the wind to suck
For the sun to rot
For the leaves to drop
Here is
Strange and bitter crop
"Here is a strange fruit" Nina Simone sings as the pictures of history flashes beyond the monitor. The lyrics in this song are self explanatory as to why this evokes sadness, depression, death. This also evolves from the previous song. 4 In The Morning applies to a singular person while Strange Fruit now advances on to a whole country, and even the world. Everyone can feel this deep within.
Flower - Kylie Minogue
lyrics
Wrapped in a blanket of hope
Asleep in a bed of dreams
My step into eternity
Is not what it might have been
Or not at all for who knows which way the wind is gonna blow,
I'm waiting for your gentle whisper
Distant child, My Flower
Are you blowing in the breeze?
Can you feel me? As I breathe life into you
In a while my flower, somewhere in a desert haze
I know one day, you'll amaze me
An act of balancing, imagining
The moment I can be
Looking deep into your eyes
For now a mystery
Or not at all for who knows which way the wind is gonna blow,
I'm waiting for your gentle whisper
Distant child, My Flower
Are you blowing in the breeze?
Can you feel me? As I breathe life into you
In a while my flower, somewhere in a desert haze
I know one day, you'll amaze me
Two hearts, in the hands of time
Your love bleeds into mine
I'll be with you forever and
Give you everything I am
Want you to understand
It's you and I together
Distant child, My Flower
Are you blowing in the breeze?
Can you feel me? As I breathe life into you
In a while my flower, somewhere in a desert haze
I know one day, you'll amaze me
Flower is a song written by Kylie in 2007 when she was undergoing breast cancer. It's a sweet lullaby to a baby she may or may not ever have, she just never knew. Like the other two songs, this song gives us a sad vibe. Like "Strange Fruit", a large section of people can feel the emotion in themselves as well as the song. But, unlike the other two, this song transcends history. If this song was made in the 1500s, mothers could still relate to it, a song dedicated to a child that they may never have.
All 3 songs have interesting characteristics that make them stand out, however all 3 are connected in certain ways to make them the perfect trinity. As with last round, this round these three songs could not get any better
I still find it so hard to believe that you are being drafted, and will be leaving for war soon. I still remember you saying how you would be honored to fight for your country, and me acting like I was proud of your courage. Secretly...I wanted to burst into tears. The thought of you leaving for war scared me, so when you told me that you were being drafted, my stomach sank. It was like my world came crashing down on me, but I acted like I was happy for you. After you left my house that night, I cried. I cried for an hour straight.
I know that no matter what I do, nothing will change. You will still have a duty to fulfill. You will still have to go away from me. I will be as supportive as I can, and wish you the best of luck so that you may return to me. My heart will be crying out your name until the day you return.
I won't make this letter too long - I know you have to pack, have family and friends to spend a bit more time with, and get plenty of rest, so I will end it here. Farewell, Ivan. You better come back to me to tell me I worried for nothing.
Yours forever,
Michael.

Hurt Lyrics
I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way
I remember crying the first time I saw the video to this song on TV, it's one of those songs which hits you hard. Originally written about a drug addiction, I feel like this song can have so many meanings. The song represents self-torture, knowing you are letting people down, being at the very lowest part of your life and feeling numb from the pain. From the opening lyrics 'I hurt myself today, to see if I still feel' the pain just resonates deep within, it truly is one of the most haunting performances.
Foolish Games - Jewel
► The sadness of love/heartbreak ◄
Foolish Games Lyrics
You took your coat off and stood in the rain,
You're always crazy like that.
And I watched from my window,
Always felt I was outside looking in on you.
You're always the mysterious one with
Dark eyes and careless hair,
You were fashionably sensitive
But too cool to care.
You stood in my doorway, with nothing to say
Besides some comment on the weather.
Well in case you failed to notice,
In case you failed to see,
This is my heart bleeding before you,
This is me down on my knees, and...
These foolish games are tearing me apart,
And your thoughtless words are breaking my heart.
You're breaking my heart.
You're always brilliant in the morning,
Smoking your cigarettes and talking over coffee.
Your philosophies on art, Baroque moved you.
You loved Mozart and you'd speak of your loved ones
As I clumsily strummed my guitar.
You'd teach me of honest things,
Things that were daring, things that were clean.
Things that knew what an honest dollar did mean.
I hid my soiled hands behind my back.
Somewhere along the line, I must've got
Off track with you.
Well, excuse me, guess I've mistaken you for somebody else,
Somebody who gave a damn,
Somebody more like myself.
These foolish games are tearing me apart,
And your thoughtless words are breaking my heart.
You're breaking my heart.
You took your coat off,
Stood in the rain,
You're always crazy like that.
This song is about the pain and sorrow caused by love, whether it be unrequited or just genuine heartbreak. I find this song to be extremely beautiful, the song describes pouring your heart out to the one you love, begging them to notice you and listen, only to be left heartbroken. I know first-hand how horrible it is when people play these 'games' with your heart, when you give your all to a person only to have them mess you around. It's one of the worst pains in the world. And even after all the torture and mind-games, you still can't help but love that person, knowing it will destroy your heart in the end.
Mad World - Gary Jules
► The sadness of depression ◄
Mad World Lyrics
All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me
And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world ... mad world
Enlarging your world
Mad world
This song represents depression and the lack of self worth. When life becomes so dull and monotonous that you feel invisible, nobody notices you, nobody cares, it's a horrible kind of sadness. I find it very philosophical and tragically captivating the idea this song brings up, that for people with depression, your dreams are more beautiful and worthwhile than your own reality. This song is incredibly sad and I think it encompasses the theme of this round perfectly.

This song starts of the trinity as it reales to a person who feels like she unwanted she feels so unimportant like she invisble and she feels like she doesn't even exist in this world anymore that she is only going to do the only other option. Commit suicide. I had lost a best friend to who committed suicide. They felt depressed and alone in this world, even though I and a few others were there for them. They suffered from depression and couldn't take anymore on being here on earth.
Everybody Hurts - REM
Quote:
This song continues the trinity as the song means that everybody hurts, that everybody cries, that we all get sad sometimes and we need to just hold on and not let it get to us that we have to go to drastic measures as committing suicide. Now, how this fits into this trinity is that I wish I had the opportunity to say to this to my best friend. That they were loved, they were needed, they were apart of my life, and others. I know they were hurting but so does everyone, and they didn't need to resort to that measure to take all the pain away.
Someone's Watching Over Me - Hilary Duff
Quote:
This song closes my trinity of sadness. This song is a sad but not happy sad of song. This is knowing that you may have lost someone you truly love, they are still up there watching over you. This song relates to the continuation of losing my best friend. I know that they are up there watching over me. I did feel like breaking down and crying and just locking myself in my room, but I knew I had to be strong for them. Even though they aren't here with me in person, they are still up there and still in my heart.

This song is about losing someone special and going back to that dark place you were in before.
MY SHADOW'S THE ONLY ONE THAT WALKS BESIDE ME
This song is about being misunderstood and lonely and you're just waiting for someone that understands you to come and help you.
Sadness is a feeling which we've all felt and what can we describe it as? Pain. Hard-hitting, ruthless, cut-throat pain. When the tears fall down, feeling crushed and hopeless, that's sadness, also sometimes you don't show but it starts to build up inside you that it's bound it explode and tear your heart to pieces. We've all expressed sadness in several ways and forms like loneliness, heartbreak, disappointments, etc... The trinity I shows has been focused on a certain theme or a story that sort of unfolds the further you go in, that I have created called "The Aftermath of Heartbreak". Hopefully everyone enjoys it (not really enjoy it since it's supposed to make you sad so I don't know )
SAD SONG No. 1 4 AM by MELANIE FIONA
Who Knew That My Heart Could Ever Bruise?
For the first song, I chose this song about betrayal. The sudden moment when you realise that your partner, the one that you felt like they were your one and only had been sneaking behind your back with someone else. It's that crashing moment when you realise everything you knew with that person was a lie. The chilling music and heartleft lyrics like "Who knew that my heart could ever bruise, you see the scar here on my chest" just really get you. Who knew that someone you loved and wrapped your whole world around would drop you like that for a quick one. The agony and pain in Melanie's voice would make anyone who has, or maybe hasn't, gone through the "being-cheated-on" experience tear up! I know I did a little bit.
SAD SONG No. 2 November by GABRIELLE APLIN
How Can I Forgive?
After the truth has been uncovered and time passed, the heartbreak pain slowly turn into a rock solid drag on your heart. You dread the memory. You dread the time. You dread the day it happened. Gabrielle presents us with a song full of sorrow, and about how remembering that painful moment sort of brings the sadness pack. "I always used to love November, but now it always floods with rain" it's like that moment tainted the day. It tainted that time and every year when it comes, the pain repeats itself. The sound of her voice full of tears really adds to the song's mood. How can you forgive that moment nonetheless forget? Sometimes it's just too much.
SAD SONG No. 3 Breathe Me by SIA
Help, I Have Done It Again
And this is where this song comes along. When you have had enough of feeling pain, it has gotten to much. You need to free yourself. You are drown in tears, searching for a friend to hold you and tell you it will be alright. You might resort to many things like cutting or just hating yourself and your existence. When you have lost that person that holds you and provides you with the love that you need. "Hurt myself again today, and the worst part is there's no one else to blame" The person is gone, you keep reminding yourself of them when your all alone and you hurt every single time, and they aren't here to blame them. Sia wrote this song in a way that can be understood in many ways, I feel like you can take it as the way I did or you can explain as sadness resulting from isolation and depression. But after the heartbreak, you're bound to feel isolated and depressed if the person meant so much to you. Maybe someday a new person will come by, someone who gives you want you need, but until that happens the sadness might be too much.

My Sad Trinity
My sad trinity is based on the five stages of grief. But since we have a limit of choosing only three songs, I decided to go with the three final stages: Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance.
Bargaining
Hurt
Quote:
If I had just one more day,
I would tell you how much that I've missed you since you've been away
My first song choice for my trinity is "Hurt" by Christina Aguilera. I've always related this song to my grandmother. When I was younger, I would spend a lot of time with her, but ever since I moved to America with my family, I lost all contact with her. Whenever I'm given the offer to talk to her, I always reject it since I feel like I have better things to do. This song opened my eyes on how fast people can slip away from your life and I feel guilty for basically ignoring her. I'd love to spend a day just with her before she passes.
Depression
Irvine
Quote:
Why can't you just take me?
I don't have much to go before I fade completely
The second song I selected was "Irvine" by Kelly Clarkson. This has always been my go-to song whenever I feel sad since I relate it to a lot. Whenever I'm feeling depressed, whatever the reason, I feel useless and wish I could just "fade away" to escape from reality and my problems.
Acceptance
Run
Quote:
I'll sing it one last time for you
Then we really have to go
You've been the only thing that's right
In all I've done
The final song for my sad trinity is Run by Leona Lewis. My interpretation of this song is that it's about two lovers who have accepted the fact that they have to leave each other. I find it much more emotional than Snow Patrol's original version, so I chose her cover over the original. I personally think this is Leona's most emotional song and could bring many people to tears.

I'll be honest; I really hate this challenge. I had to listen to so many songs that made me cry, scream, and crawl into a ball to sleep. It's just so depressing listening to songs that make you sad. But, here's my trinity.
Marvin Gaye - "Save the Children"
While doing the R&B albums' countdown, I had to listen to a few albums I haven't heard but were revered universally as being really good. And well, I stumbled on Marvin Gaye's What's Going On album, and I was saddened; not by the album itself, it was fantastic, but by what he was talking about... Let's just say, every song on that album made you think about society back then and how it is today: long story short, if we don't change how we look at the world, that album will withstand the test of time, and not in a good way.
But, to make a longer story short, one of the songs on this album was one of the most depressing songs I've ever read. Talked about how there aren't enough people who care about this world, yet the only one's who could are children. Which makes me remember that we all used to be children at one time, so at one time, we all cared for each other. It's sad to know there are people who don't realize this and still continue to loot, fight, and kill each other. And this song just reminds me of the truth, and the truth hurts...
Phil Collins - "Another Day in Paradise"
Almost in the same vein as "Save the Children", but with more story line and less speculation. Another song that makes you think and makes you feel; I almost teared up when I heard "Brandy & Ray J's" version, but I nearly broke down when I heard the original. It's really sad to know that this happens everyday; some people are just blind to it. I know how it feels to lose your home; it's terrifying to realize that you'll soon have no place to go and nowhere to sleep. The saddest part is that people like the woman in this song don't have a place to turn like I did.
P!nk - "Who Knew?"
When I lost one of my closest family members, this was the song I turned to. It helped me get all my tears out. I needed something that was upbeat, but spoke my heart. P!nk captured that perfectly. It's so sad to know that you were so close to someone you love, then to see them go. I think what made it harder to bear with it is that I saw her as my second mother: someone I could turn to when I needed to talk, someone who loved me unconditionally, and someone who would protect me... with her life... So, yeah, this song gave me that filling I had in my heart when she left.

Kelly Clarkson - Because of You (from Breakaway)
In "Because of You", Kelly Clarkson delivers a powerful and emotional vocal that really displays the pain she experienced as a result of her parents' divorce. In this song, Clarkson reveals that sadness causes self-hatred, the desire to appear happy, and a lack of trust. By singing lyrics like "because of you, I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me", she shows that sadness can have a more lasting impact than just an immediate mourning.

Linkin Park - Numb (from Meteora)
Linkin Park's memorable hit "Numb" portrays how sadness can often leave you feeling empty and numb to any other emotion. Feeling nothing at all is often a side effect of grief or sorrow. This song's dramatic rock production and Chester Bennington's raw, unadulterated vocals also show how sorrow can often lead us to anger and internal rage.
text
Evanescence - My Immortal (from Fallen)
Even after the initial shock of immediate grief has passed, sadness can leave you with a lingering, haunting feeling. The song "My Immortal" by Evanescence embodies this eerie feeling that can remain even after time has passed. Lead singer Amy Lee's vocals resonate with a sadness that she's tried to move on from, but alas, cannot. The relatively repetitive piano instrumental also illustrates the idea of a haunting sadness that can't be easily shaken.

This is seriously one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. I'm not going to lie and say there weren't tears in my eyes when I first watched this video, because they were definitely streaming down my face. Taylor really captured the pain and sorrow that comes from having someone taken from you too soon in this song, so I think it's a perfect way to start out my trinity.
Christina Aguilera- Hurt
This song is one of the best ballads of the 2000's. Legend X's vocals in Hurt are so powerful that you feel the pain she's feeling. The theme of this song adds another dimension to my trinity. Looking back onto a situation and realizing that you were wrong and there is nothing that you can do about it is honestly one of the worst feelings in the world. Hurt really brings that feeling to life, which is why it holds a spot in my trinity.
Katy Perry- Thinking of You (MTV Unplugged)
This song, in my opinion is a HUGE risk. To put a live version of a song by none other than Katy Perry, the one girl whose vocals are the most criticized by everyone, seems almost insane. But to me, the raw emotion and sadness that Ms. Katheryn put into the crafting of this song is best displayed when she's singing outside of a studio with her guitar. The theme of this song, the sadness that comes from moving on from a failed relationship, also helps to complete, and diversify my "sad" trinity. Enjoy.
This song was written for 1988's She's Having A Baby, a film that includes a scene in which complications during childbirth see a man fear for the lives of his wife and not-yet-born child. In the waiting room, he thinks about what he might have done -- or do -- differently as a partner, if only it were possible. It should strike a chord with anyone who has ever loved someone, depended on them, and appreciated them for their strength, but also kind of taken them for granted, and then had to come to terms with the fact that that person who meant so much to them might not be around forever. Listening to it makes me contemplate my shortcomings in my relationships with certain people in my life, and ultimately want to do better.
For some inexplicable reason, my music teacher in Elementary would have us rehearse this song and sing it at assemblies. Maybe it was to expose us to a wide range of emotions at a young age? I never really questioned it. All I know is that it made me sad, and was perhaps the first song to ever really do so. (So it seems only fitting that I include it here!) Years later, I discovered that Eric Clapton wrote it following the death of his four-year-old son who fell from the 53rd-floor window of a New York apartment. I'm not a god-fearing person, but the emotion behind his words is so palpable that it transcends religious beliefs. Anyone with even a modicum of warmth in their heart should be moved by this song.
Sally's Pigeons is about a woman, namely Cyndi, looking back at her life thus far and reminiscing over the times she spent with a childhood friend who died from an unsafe back-street abortion when they were just kids. The lines about Sally's pirate smile especially hurt my heart. Every time. The best way for me to do this song justice is to urge you all to just listen to it and come to your own conclusions. Make sure you've got some Kleenex handy; such is the strength of the emotions it evokes.

Sadness has so many facets that it's very difficult to choose which songs embody it the best but I decided that the most predominant themes present in sad songs are heartbreak, death, and loneliness/despair. Each song I chose corresponds to one of these themes.
Heartbreak:
Britney Spears - ''I Run Away''
Lets pretend, that Ive moved on
And I tell myself,
That life goes on, without you.
Open my eyes, Look deep inside.
I run away
I believe this song is a perfect representation of heartbreak. It's a phase in which someone is in denial and runs away from the reality of a shattered relationship, refusing to believe that it's over. The violin instrumentation and vocal performance add a darker element to the song.
Death:
Eminem - ''Stan"
Sometimes I even cut myself,
To see how much it bleeds,
It's like adrenaline,
The pain is such a sudden rush for me...
This song highlights the immense trauma that many celebrities face with stalkers, in this case, it culminates in the death of a stalker, who kills himself and his pregnant girlfriend by driving off a bridge. The rain sound effects in the background provide an eerie and depressing mood, as well as the verses [where we are presented with the distressed, mentally unstable stalker in full throttle].
Loneliness/Despair:
Madonna - ''The Power of Goodbye''
Your heart is not open so I must go
The spell has been broken, I loved you so
Freedom comes when you learn to let go
Creation comes when you learn to say no
This song shows the isolation one can feel from someone else and how greed and personal selfishness can deteriorate a relationship. The song also adds in the theme of despair because the lyrics portray a relationship where there are no more options, no places to go and nothing to do that can possibly save it.

THE SAD TRINITY
I still remember hearing this song for the first time a few years ago while watching the series finale of Six Feet Under and just associating the song with something so final. I cried and cried, even a while after the show was over and it was one of those rare moments where a song was able to break me down. The song is rather raw and you can even hear Sia's voice crack at times, making the song even more genuine. Breathe Me is about anxiety, overcoming it and sometimes even regressing, which is something I have dealt with in the past growing up. It signifies personal struggle and how it is an uphill battle.
Like Breathe Me, this song was also featured on Six Feet Under. Tying back to my fear of death in the first round, this song deals with having trouble moving on after an untimely death. As morbid as it may be, I always wonder how it will be when someone dear to me passes away. Will I accept it as apart of life or will I struggle moving on? While the lyrics are a bit repetitive and rather somber, it shows a glimmer of hope towards the end with the "hey hey hey", which is what makes this sad song that much more special.
Originally recorded by Tears for Fears in the early 80's, their version, while great, fails to deliver the emotion Gary Jules does. Made for an equally depressing film, Donnie Darko, Mad World is about the world seen from a teenager's point of view. It's about the craziness happening all around you while you just float on by, unnoticed. Even though the song possesses many lyrical gems, the line "the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had" especially stands out as it demonstrates the teen angst most of us experience at some point where we just believe life would be better without us. In a way, it also describes just how routine everything has become, almost like we have become zombies to this world, forgetting about all the good things life has to offer.
16 out of 17 submitted for this round, meaning Pretty Lady will automatically find a seat in the Flop Trinity. However, that doesn't necessarily mean he will be eliminated this round...
Since he has been doing pretty decently throughout this game so far, the Golden Trinity could decide
to send a player who makes a second appearance in the Flop Trinity this round.
If Pretty Lady happens to submit in the next few hours while we are still judging, his entry will be
docked points on the rankings but he will still get a shot at avoiding the Flop Trinity.
Well done, everyone! I feel like we all did really well.
I found it hard to narrow it down to just three this time; I wanted Top Of The World by the Dixie Chicks and Martina McBride's Concrete Angel to make my entry a little quintinity instead.
I opened Jad's entry and immediately facepalmed because I can't believe I forgot Breathe Me by Sia
It's seriously my favorite song to listen to when I'm sad. It's such a release. Great job, Jad
Excellent entries but now I'm scared because two of my songs show up in other entries.
My last entry had 2 songs that were used by other members as well and it didn't seem to affect my ranking. I think the judges rate your trinity based on how well the songs go together and don't necessarily care if it's been used by other users. At least I hope it's like that.
