So the album download will be available for free to the first million users on July 4th. But why is the album being released to US retailers on July 7th, when July 9th is the starting sales day ?

Monday's are the start of sales tracking for album/single sales.

But I don't think there is any explanation. Maybe he just wants to debut with 1-day of sales.
