Being experimental does not mean you are just play around with a genre. Experimenting means (to me) to try something new... Nicki did exactly that with Roman Reloaded. She experimented with her own sound (more than two 'loud, Roman' rap tracks, a ratchet anthem, dance pop), her rapping/singing techniques (use of another language as seen with Gun Shot), and the structure of songs (i.e. belting out "dick in your face" in the middle of COAC, Martha doing the chorus of RH with Roman doing the verses, and the promo single Roman in Moscow). She also experimented with herself as a person, with fashion, and with her features during the era. Had we ever gotten a 'serious' and emotion-driven verse from Nicki before Girl on Fire?
Lol, I know that is long, but even with saying all of that... It is all in how you define "experimenting". Roman Reloaded might not be Nicki's "808s & Heartbreak", but it is her most experimental work IMO to date. And it is nothing wrong with admitting to that because RR will always stand out in her discography as an experiment that might never 'fit in' with her other albums. Just look at The Re-Up which is going to be mixed with a new sound and Pink Friday for the third album... Lmao, a totally different direction in comparison.
The only controversial thing about PF:RR was the backlash from her doing pop. Other controversies that happened within the era, though, were indirectly caused by it. Nicki would not have been able to do Idol without Starships thus never would have come into contact with Mariah, etc...
|
PF:RR was both experimental and controversial as i stated. TM just wants to shade Nicki and get attention which is why I didn't respond to him.

I will say that this is true. She is aiming to regain the urban crowd. I didn't know she said it will sell 5M. I thought she wanted to sell 5M WW...because i believe the most successful female solo rap album sold 3-4M WW.

She did want hits obviously. But I think the whole purpose of the album was to go Global. Now she can try to push her hip-hop stuff more. Sellout or not. I think it could work.

She's not going to be the only relevant rapper nominated. All of the BIG names won't be there though.

Exactly, she didn't sell out. She went global. I could see a sell out going all the way dance pop but that wasn't he case.

Everyone is a sellout I guess. Rappers are making pop music. R&B artists are trying to rap. Pop singers are trying to act "hood". Country singers are going pop.
Nicki was just one of the few to succeed doing it so that's why she gets so much hate.
|
I know but most people in the community are like TM...just not logical or intelligent to understand what sell out really is. Especially in 2013. She made a concept album that she thought would be more successful. She originally had an idea with RR but then the end result was to appeal to both groups at the same time. Top 40 dance pop and urban crowd. There's a reason it rarely works. Luckily she still won but the concept album is not what makes her a sellout.
If the album started at Starships and ended with young forever+ turn me on+masquerade+va va voom then I'd see the point.

I think there's a substantial chance for her to appear on Britney's album, actually.
Wary knows I gave homegirl 13 years of my life for her.

I hope so.

LOL.
So, the other woman is release April 24/25, 2014 and Easter is April 20, 2014.
SHe needs to release her album in April 15/22, 2014 with easter rebate to get sales high.
As much as I rather have May/June 2014 album if she was able to get a #1 album and movie like JLO did then that would be cool too.
