BoTB '13 Week 10: I Wish I Was Still Into Mr. Brightside
I do, kind of. But not really, because in my eyes, this is the strongest, strangest week of round one. What a lovely note to go out on! You have possibly the greatest band of this indie pop/rock era, two genreless bands with big voiced women fronting them, and the female voice of already round two certified The New ****ographers in play. Have fun!
Vampire Weekend, performing Giving Up the Gun
Charli XCX, performing What I Like
The Killers, performing Mr. Brightside
2NE1, performing I Love You
Paramore, performing Still Into You
Japandroids, performing The House That Heaven Built
Sleigh Bells, performing Crown on the Ground
Rilo Kiley, performing Portions for Foxes
Neko Case, performing I Wish I Was the Moon
Easy as pie - listen to all nine songs, comment on them, and rank them. Nine goes to your favorite song, one goes to your least favorite. If you give Neko her song less than a five, consider yourself banned.

I have to say, round two is looking quite above boards. Hopefully this week will provide some masculine energy. (Not in the form of Brandon and Co, obvi.)

9 The Killers, performing Mr. Brightside
Mr. Brightside is one of the most scrobbed songs on last.fm, and I think it simply deserves so. Everything about the song screams AMAZING. It gives me this strange vibe of love, hate, jealousy, rage, obsession and outright craziness. The opening "I'm coming out of my cage" is one of my favorite lines ever. Way to make an entrance!
8 2NE1, performing I Love You
Admittedly, I am biased in ranking the song this high, but in all honesty, ILY is one of those highlights of K-pop in 2012, as it has a less conventional structure while still keeping all the commercial appeal. Amazing track. 2NE1 delivers.
7 Japandroids, performing The House That Heaven Built
Not my favorite from the album, but it's definitely the easiest one to get into.
6 Rilo Kiley, performing Portions for Foxes
I have no freaking idea what "portion of foxes" means, but I do love this track. The story seems like what would go through the mind of an emo teenager, but the lyrics itself is stunning.
5 Paramore, performing Still Into You
Cute, yet somewhat edgy.
4 Neko Case, performing I Wish I Was the Moon
This song was used in True Blood. It's beautiful and poetic, and fits the scene really well. However, it's pretty boring if you listen to it by itself.
3 Vampire Weekend, performing Giving Up the Gun
I mean I LOVE the video, and I also like how seemingly playful the sound is compared to the actual lyrics, but really, the song doesn't do much for me.
2 Sleigh Bells, performing Crown on the Ground
Just no.
1 Charli XCX, performing What I Like
This one is trash.

9. Mr. Brightside
It MAY just be their best song. The perfect usage of teenage angst with simple yet semi-relatable lyrics. Love the chorus too.
8. Portions For Foxes
"And the talking leads to touching, and the touching leads to sex / And then there is no mystery left"
Why am I loving this?
7. Crown On The Ground
Not even close to one of my favorites from them, and it's a bit too much on the ears. But at least they contributed to actually making this week worth while.
6. What I Like
I'm sorry, but this is NOT a standout of her young career. Still not bad though; nice flow.
5. Giving Up The Gun
Cute, but definitely not the best potential choice for them.
4. I Wish I Was The Moon
Oh girl... I like The New ****os so I wanted to like you. But this is just boring.
3. The House That Heaven Built
Ok. Maybe it's just the mood I'm in, but this didn't excite me at all.
2. Still Into You
Hayley's voice sounds a little different on this one, but it's still very Paramore. Unfortunately the lyrics and production bore me.
1. I Love You
Generic. The only thing that could have possibly made it interesting were the lyrics in Korean (?).

Stevie, you're tripping. This week is one of the best, and the Almighty will get you for your slanderous words. #dmf #missyou

9. Mr Brightside - Definately my worst "9" I've given yet.
8. Crown On The Ground - Not my favorite by them. On any other week this would have been about a 4.
7. I Love You - Don't normally use east asian pop, but this is great.
6. Giving Up The Gun - Contra is my least favorite but I like this one
5. What I Like - Not heard her album yet, but I guess this one is Ok
4. Portions For Foxes - Not bad
3. I Wish I Was the Moon - Hmmm....
2. Still Into You - Probably the best Paramore song I've listened to.
1. The House That Heaven Built -

9. Mr. Brightside - A modern classic. Anthemic, fun, cheesy at the best way, catchy and incredibly bittersweet. By far the best song of the "new wave revival" of the mid-2000s.
8. Giving Up the Gun - Gotta love Ezra and his flawless vocals performance. The band, as usual, also does a great job, definitely one of the highlights of their discography.
7. The House That Heaven Built
6. Still Into You - If I could transform the cutest lovely teddy bear into a song, it would sound like this.
5. I Wish I Was the Moon
4. What I Like
3. I Love You
2. Crown on the Ground
1. Portions for Foxes

I saw the title of this thread and wretched. "Mr Brightside" is my least favourite song in the entire world ever. All the things that I loathe most in music are located somewhere in this song, and its ubiquity tells me everything I need to know about the horrific taste of so much of humanity. I've never wanted to inflict violence upon people so much as when this is played anywhere near my presence. KILL IT WITH FIRE.
9 Paramore - Still Into You
8 Charli XCX - What I Like
7 2NE1 - I Love You
6 Japandroids - The House That Heaven Built
