I noticed that this song was in the Top 10 last week. Never heard this song before. My radio stations are not even playing it. Some kind payola going on?

Darius Rucker, the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish, did his own version of it which I guess people like. Country songs frequently are on the top 10 on iTunes. It doesn't mean payola.
Now that make sense. I became suspicious when I saw the song has been in the top since last week. Unfortunately we don't have a country station here in my area

The only instance I can think of where payola was used on iTunes was in 2009 when Interscope paid to have Right Round removed from iTunes so that Poker Face could get a week at #1.
It is unusually high for a country song though. It's not unheard of a country song to go Top 10 briefly after its release or following an award show performance.
