Which is interesting because she said the record would be 90s R&B influenced, but I don't really hear that in these two. Maybe the album will be a little like 4 where it's a mix of genres. Which I don't mind because that was an amazing album and she got a lot of praise for making an album so coherent while doing so many styles.
That's what I was thinking and that's probably why she compared it to 4 and IASF. I believe she did, i'm not sure.
You know what guys? I've never been happier leading up to a Beyonce era. Even though we've guessed hundreds of times about dates and styles and plans and have been let down more than a few times, I see what you're doing Beyonce! You're bringing excitement back to the music industry. The last few years have been so boring for pop music. Everything seems so calculated and overly planned with no soul.
Beyonce may have missed some typical industry hotspots where she could have done effective marketing (after the Super Bowl, after the documentary, after the Grammys etc.). But just imagine if that happened and then imagine all the hype and interest she has right now. And that's not just because she's teasing us. It's also because she's doing it HER way and we like to see her independence because it makes us feel independent too. She's managing herself and doing what she wants (She's a grown woman!) And her way is more interesting than the way the industry has been doing it. She's done so much "promo" yet she had nothing to promote, and that feels fresh and exciting. We all love to see celebrities make appearances and be on magazine covers and perform on big stages, but when they're doing it just to sell you their latest release the connection between celebrity and fan is lessoned. The celebrity isn't doing it for your pleasure, they're doing it for their sales. That's what is amazing to me about the Super Bowl. She went in to entertain us 100%, not to sell us her latest single. She gave us Life is But a Dream to show us a little more of her personal life, not to make us buy the single the following Tuesday. Beyonce has touched on this topic in the documentary and that is why I feel this way about it all. I could be wrong though, but this is how I feel about how things are going.
And of course Beyonce is smart and this is marketing in its own way and I'm sure there will be some marketing in the old way once she starts releasing stuff but all this has come together to make the most exciting lead-up she's had yet. At least, in my opinion.

I remember seeing the Crazy in Love video on TV at a friend's house. I'm not sure if I heard it before yet but I wasn't a stan so I didn't think much besides that it sounded good. I think I remember wondering if she covered a 60s song because it sounded familiar/retro to me.
My stan process was relatively slow actually. I really didn't get too interested in Beyonce until Naughty Girl which I loved. I liked Baby Boy a lot too but passingly, it didn't make me stan. Then after loving most of the Destiny Fulfilled singles I LOVED Check On It. And then when I was listening to the radio in my backyard in the summer of 2006 I heard a song and wondered, "Is that a new song by Beyonce? I didn't even know one was coming!" Then that's when the stan spark took flight and I saw her come to MuchMusic and was full stan.
