Listening to The 20/20 Experience right now and being scared by those ridiculously long songs, not to mention i'm getting tired of them after 4:30-5 mins.
What is your perfect length for a song? I'd say 3:30-3:50
When the song lasts more than 5 mins, I usually use radio edit (except the LORD Swift)
I don't think I could ever label a time restriction on a song.
Songs I love range from 2.5 minutes to nearly 8. It depends more on the quality of the song than the length.
I'd be happy listening to a 15 minute song if I liked it enough.
It really depends.
For fast paced rock songs 2-2:30 can be more than enough.
For pop songs anything in the range of 3:15-3:45 is ideal.
For other genres and pop ballads ~4 minutes is good.
For extra amazing songs 5-6 mins is a must.
Sometimes a 4 min song can be an utter pain to finish
At other times a 10 min song is just not enough (e.g. Pyramids)
This feels like a weird question without any right answer for me. Different songs run for different lengths and they're either good or bad, but I guess I'd like a song to last at least 2:30 (any less I usually want more). There are plenty of great longer-than-average songs whose length is totally appropriate, though.
The moment when the beat comes in at 3:08 is such a great ****ing moment, but I don't think it'd be as satisfying without that three minute restrained, build-up leading into it. And another song could be over and done with by the 3:00 minute mark and not be any worse for wear.
