Gurl she isn't called "Cow on Ice" for nothing. It's by FAR her worst surface, she's reached the finals AT LEAST TWICE at every other surface. And besides Serena is a better clay court player, not sure if Maria can beat her there. Whenever Serena gets more time to do what she wants with the ball (and healthy) she isn't losing to a person who's worst surface statistically is clay

Maria's best chance of ever beating Serena again is on the Australian Hard Courts because it's slow enough so she can get to some of the pounding balls Serena will surely fly past her and the surface doesn't play into some of Serena's strengths like clay and grass does

1) W

2) RG
3) USO

4) AO

Players with 3/4 slams either miss W or RG. Those two are the most prestigious, with the most history, especially W.

But today it does not really matter, eveb though the AO legacy is less impressive considering people didn't give a damn about it until the late 80's/early 90's

I honestly think Maria has a BIG chance at Australia. It's her most successful Grand Slam (actually thats an understatement, she has an 81% success rate here but both the French Open and Wimbledon is 80% with the lone outlier being the US @ 79%) and she is looking SHARP. You don't dismantle a 7 time Grand Slam champ by just any play

Still, Serena is the one to beat but she hasn't been tested yet so I'm not sure how she'll hold against the top players with her ankle...which looks fine but you never know in a long match it could be detrimental. And with Kvitova out () she may not be tested until the semis with Azarenka (possibly Quarters with Stephens). Ugh this is one of the best Grand Slams in recent memory

Anyway, I've been watching a lot of the coverage. After I broke a few bones on my foot, I've had all the time in the world. Have to say that the quality of play has been quite disappointing so far, mostly when it comes to the women. I hope things pick up from here next week.

Glad Kvitova went out even though neither she or Robson were deserving of a place in the R16. What an awful, awful match. Reminded me why I dislike Petra so much. And it was a shame Venus couldn't put up a fight, but the result was kinda expected.

Come on it HAS to be one of the best, simply because the top 3 are acting their ranking. About 2 years ago when Wozniacki was number 1 losing to anybody and everybody and the whole top 10 switched every week it had no substance. Now that the top 3 are real top 3 material and winning everything (well mainly Serena) we finally have order in the WTA and this Australian Open is still wide open as to who could win. Victoria has won like 10 matches in a row here and is the number 1, Maria is playing her best tennis since 2008 and Serena is playing the best tennis of her life. Not to mention all 3 women have a chance to end the tournament number 1. It's exciting to watch .

Chile how long have you been watching tennis? I'm not here at all for you ignorance and delusion. Clay USED TO BE Maria's worst surface but after her shoulder injury (2011-present), Clay is her BEST surface. She has morphed into a percentage play GOAT on clay and it is the only surface she can handle Azarenka's relentless game.

Well since she's come back I guess it was clay, but even then she ain't winning against Serena seeing as how she has lost to her twice on clay, including last year in Madrid.

And I'm not so sure about the Australian Open being her best slam...that may just be Wimbledon. Not including this year's Australian Open statistics, Serena has a 54-7 W/L record which equates to about 84% success rate. At Wimbledon, her 67-8 W/L is hovering just above 89%. Also considering she's has the same amount of titles at both slams but with two more finals at Wimbledon, I would say she's better there. Still Serena will always beat Maria, but Maria's best chance is here where she has always had her best slam success

Serena looked good today ...and Azarenka . She'll be an appetizer for Serena to take on the full course meal of Maria in the finals
