As a Rihanna fan, not stan, who thinks Unapologetic is her best album I disagree. Gaga's singing and dancing improved dramatically over TF/M era. In terms of shock appeal, I guess one could say that but when you expect something shocking/controversial it's harder to deliver. However, Rihanna has still yet to have a controversial or shocking performance. Rihanna vocally has improved and can actually sing her own songs but she still can't dance or try to. Video wise they are kinda at a stand still. WFL was great, YDO was meh, WHYB was a good concept but looked cheap as ****, and Diamonds was decent but I feel if Gaga had done the video it would've been blasted to hell and back for not making sense and being boring.
The one thing that makes me nervous of ARTPOP is the performances, I think visually(music video wise) she's shown she can still deliver(see FAME). However, given she's going in a much harder electronic route I wonder if her vocals will suffer. On top of that when people expect a controversial/shocking performance every time she graces an award show it's harder to predict. I think the most shocking she could do is if she did a performance and dressed sexy/****ty like she did in the Cake teaser. It'd enrage some while shocking others who call her ugly and disgusting.
