Sky Ferreira - Ghost EP
This EP represents Sky Ferreria's coming of age, there are issues in this EP that only a mature artist can have ever contemplated. The EP demonstrates the Sky we aren't used to but the Sky that Sky wants to be, a pseudo-pop grime queen and it is in every way a better Sky. Sky's distant, lost vocals on Lost In My Bedroom pale in comparison to the rest of the EP where Sky is either murmuring over a bass guitar (Red Lips), seemingly crying over stuttered piano chords (Everything Is Embarrassing) or mellowing over an acoustic (Sad Dream). But it is the real Sky's frank delivery that makes the album so beautifully endearing. Sad Dream

M.I.A - Bad Girls (Bad Girls - Single)
Coupled with quite possibly the best video of the year, Bad Girls' full-blown, anti-oppressive statement finds itself advent to no scrutiny with MIA. She delivers her best, forming hooks over syncopated whispers of 'live fast, die young, bad girls do it well' to the point of it becoming so ridiculous that it becomes powerful. Danja's bazaar and drum beats form the marriage between voice and lyric - there can be no doubt that even after Maya, M.I.A is still capable of crafting a brilliant pop song. Bad Girls
Icona Pop - Iconic EP
Another EP comes gliding like a mega dance, futuristic spaceship into place 28. Who'd of thought that a small duo from Sweden could craft the best dance-pop album of the year. Full of glitzy, loud synths and banging drums, Iconic is the absolute essential dance-pop album of the year, even if it is just an EP. As well as the absolutely, phenomenal first single 'I Love It', Iconic offers better-than-but-in-minor-key Starships 'Top Rated' with one of the most soaring choruses of the year and the 'Manners' that has the perfect sing-a-long hook. An absolutely almighty effort from the unheard, good on them. Top Rated

Chromatics - Kill For Love (Kill For Love)
Synth-driven dream pop made its mark last year with M83 and whilst Chromatic's Kill For Love doesn't come near to the amazingness of 'Midnight City' it makes a damn good effort. Melodic, high pitched synths and beating kickdrums couple with the dreamy vocals of Ruth Radelet to create the arm-swaying anthem of 2012. It would make the perfect accompaniment at any music festival where everyone is really really drunk and really high. Kill For Love
Bruce Springsteen - Wrecking Ball
The most politically charged album of the year focuses on the hardships of the 2012 working man in America. Though personally I may not agree with some of the things that Bruce supports (see Occupy Wall Street) the sheer brash approach Bruce takes to his anthems makes you want to believe what Bruce is singing about; the 'all-together' We Take Care Of Our Own is so incredulously filled with those chords that make it paradoxically cheesy and brilliant at the same time. The mellowness of tracks such as Jack Of All Trades which are obviously far more heartfelt are those 'lighters-in-the-air' moments that seem to regularly accompany any Bruce album. It's on of the best release from an old artist in a long time and agreeably much better than a grandma playing a cheerleader and a tired crony trying to strain his career. You've Got It

Chairlift - I Belong In Your Arms (Chairlift)
More light-hearted brilliant new wave synthpop, I Belong In Your Arms is the heartwretching ode to the hopeful lover. It's wonderfully poppy up-beat song about love that utilises the wonders of 80s synths and 90s drum machines in an eclectic mix. I Belong In Your Arms
Loving those three singles. Have yet to hear those EPs, but they do have two of the best pop songs of 2012. Wrecking Ball didn't strike me much when I heard it.
Yay you're back. I remember last year you were banned Loving your list so far! And go on twitter more ! I'm praying that if Celebration Rock makes the list, it won't peak high!
Wow I've just read all the descriptions and it sounds so eloquent , yet captures the essence of an easy read. You should use your talent and make a career out of your writing .
