Yea, that's true. The rest of this era should prove to be quite interesting.
No. Just recent cases off the top of my head:
They predicted Rihanna would sell 180-200k, and she sold ~240k.
They predicted Taylor would sell 900k, and she sold 1.2m.
Granted, they overshoot just as often as they undershoot. And they usually are very close.
