Did y'all hear "My Life"? I just listened first time, it's pretty mediocre. Pop would play a hip-hop song if it were good - aka Lupe's "The Show Goes On" last Summer. Or Bad Meets Evil which would've hit #1 if not for "Moves Like Jagger".

50 is just not good enough to get any impressive spins, though of course it's just starting. I'm sure it'll at least hit Top 30/40.

EDIT: But more importantly, if live performance, video and radio release at same time can't keep people buying it (#1 exposure is not such a thing imo, just top ten) then radio is the least of the issue here.

Nope. I think Home will be the best selling coronation single, but not the best overall single from an Idol.

EDIT: And it's already proven its longevity, so even after its popularity dies down it will rake in those lingering Top 100 sales.

Pretty much every hip hop fan thinks My Life is better than Lighters. I'm not even sure if Lighters should be classed as a hip hop song tbh.

There have been dozens of amazing hip hop songs released this year which have been ignored by pop radio. Even Empire State of Mind would be ignored by pop radio today. They just ignore the genre completely since about 12 months ago, when some woman went around telling pop radio that they shouldn't play hip hop songs.

That said, I hope Thrift Shop can change things.
