The R&B star - who recently became the Senior Vice President of A&R at Motown Records - insists that most artists don't stand the test of time like the Motown greats.

When was the last time Motown has had a huge artist wreck havoc on the charts and media? Besides the early 90s and back when our parents were into their music there really hasn't been. So I still don't understand why he's making references to TODAY's popstars when Britney is an icon herself.

Here's my issue with what Ne-yo is saying, it's not that he's saying she wont be an icon. It's just that he's pretending that she suddenly disappeared from the music industry and is now irrelevant. That's far from true. When Madonna or Britney took their breaks they were still very much so relevant, it's just that.... well they were on a break.

We all know Britney is one of her influences and she probably got inspired by Blackout and In the Zone? We will never know but during that time Euro-pop music was on the rise.

I think Ne-Yo did exaggerate a bit. She may not be a musical icon right now but who is he to say that she will never be an icon. That's where it all went wrong. I agree about her not being a musical icon right now but saying she will never be one is just pure ignorance.

And I watched the other day a movie called young europe and they mentioned Gaga randomly in that movie and I thought ''Ohh my she is really famous all over the world'' and today I saw this and I think Ne-Yo is soooo wrong.

Ohhh okay you're talking about the Blackout/Confessions trend I assume then. Yeah, I agree with that. But from what I remember only Katy Perry, Gaga, and Rihanna were really doing those kinds of songs. And it seems that those three are the biggest right now.

And yeah I agree, like I'm fine with him saying that he doesn't see her as an icon now. But I feel that he only said this because he's now Motown's senior VP and wants to further promote the longevity of the great Motown artist. Which in this day in age doesn't exist truthfully.

I think he's just talking about how Gaga is losing her ability to get #1 hit after #1 hit. Her singles don't do THAT well, which is kind of bad if a singer is being known as a future icon. Icons usually have chart topperst. Ne-Yo is just saying if she's already losing her ability to get smash hits after three years in the industry, she probably won't be an "icon" and won't have staying power. It's not a big deal, and monsters need to sit down.

Gaga will always be a musician with a large fanbase, but c'mon, she stopped getting continuous #1 hits after Born This Way.
