They plopped their stuffed asses down in front of the television and turned on the television to the only thing that wasn't a repeat on that day which happened to be the specials. They probably turned to the channel and fell asleep, seeing as how they were in a food coma full of tryptophan.

Besides in their official statement, the only person MTV thanked for the top ratings was Beyonce
It was also FNO last night. The demographics of the people who would watch the VMAs were out and about shopping and getting drunk. Not unexpected.

Of course the ratings were ****ed from the beginning due to the DNC & being aired on a Thursday no matter who performed.
But to just owe it to that and to say the ratings would be just as low without hype from Beyoncé, Gaga &/or Britney attending would be as delusional as thinking that the ratings would soar due to Beyoncé, Gaga &/or Britney attending.
It's a mixture of both bad timing & lack of star power.
& to say that the VMAs this year were "barely promoted" is just... stupid.
