#20 - Knives Out

"Knives Out" is the second out of three Amnesiac singles to go. The song received much more airplay than anything else from the album, and was a moderate success in the UK too. The song was inspired by The Smiths musically.
I think this is a perfect place for the song. It's one of Radiohead's more straightforward "Pop" songs. It's nice to listen to, the guitars are nice to listen to, and overall it's pleasant. Not one of their best though. 8.1

"My Iron Lung" deserved better. I love that Beatles-esque guitar hook.

"Optimistic" is the first Kid A track to leave. It was a promotional single in America, and technically the only "single" from the album. The track was a top 10 hit in the Modern Rock charts. It is the song on Kid A that is most like Radiohead's 1990s material. The line "try the best you can" is what Thom Yorke's girlfriend said about creating a follow up to OK Computer.
I'm really sad this couldn't make the top 20. It's enchanting and one of their finest lyrical moments. It feels so at home in Kid A even if it is stylistically different from basically everything else. 9.4 |

The second single from The Bends to leave today is "Fake Plastic Trees." It's one of the tracks that really started their distance from their early "Creep" sounds. While many critics were not happy with the song upon release, it has eventually become one of Radiohead's earlier classics, and has a strong following.
I lied when I said "My Iron Lung" was my least favorite single from the album, this song is. However, I do appreciate a lot of it. It's just never really interested me. However, as Supaspaz said once before to me, this is a great example of Thom Yorke's vocal abilities. He can emote very well. So I say it's a good position. 6.3

This is the Radiohead song that's meant the most to me personally. I'm sad to see it so low.

If it's "Pyramid Song", just stop the rate, because we have all failed as Radiohead listeners.
"Knives Out" being that low was surprising, but seeing FPT at #19 was REALLY surprising. Holy cow.

#18 - Harrowdown Hill

"Harrowdown Hill" is the final Thom Yorke solo song to go. It was the most successful single from the album, The Eraser. The song is about David Kelly, a biological warfare expert who committed suicide in 2003. The song was made in the Hail to the Thief sessions.
I do like "Harrowdown Hill," but I wish "Black Swan" was in this position. Ohwell, what's done is done. This song has an eerie vibe that can be very irresistible at times. It makes sense as to why this is the highest, it's definitely the most accessible song from the album, but it's also very interesting and menacing. 7.8

#17 - Jigsaw Falling Into Place

"Jigsaw Falling Into Place" was the first official single from In Rainbows. The song received minimal support from American radio stations. The song wasn't a huge hit in the UK either and performed very poorly. It was very critically acclaimed by critics, however, and seems to be approved by the Radiohead fanbase.
This is another fan favorite that isn't one of my absolute favorites. Granted it's a good song, and the song has a great sense of urgency, it just doesn't complete me like some of their other stuff. There are good things going on in it though, Thom's moans especially. 7.8
