As you will notice both apple and google have not been going at each other directly yet. they have been fighting mini battles indirectly and sooner or later, the **** is going to hit the Fan.

They aren't allowed to patent app store because it's like patenting supermarket. And this **** ain't piggybacking, mobile apps are in and there are only a couple terms that define software that sells it. That's anal and unclassy.

It's not really monopolizing. It has to do with people copying and pasting patents after they seen the impact their rival had. You can't expect someone to get away with stealing as much as they did like that. It's one thing to steal few designs here and there (because they all do it), but Samsung took it too far and now they are paying the piper for it.

Samsung is a huge corporation and will bounce back, but no doubt this loss hurts them.

They did it by sales for each device that was found to be guilty. The amount was bound to be a hefty one because Samsung has done well with their smartphones.
