What to say about the original gold dust woman? It's crazy how long the "ethereal pixie" has lasted in music, and how uncommon that was before Stevie came along. Beginning her career at eighteen, and soon hooking up with musical soulmate Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie appeared on the national radar when the two joined free-form rock band Fleetwood Mac; their first album together, Rumours, would go on to make music history.
Most of that is due to Stevie's voice as a writer - mystical, enchanting, but always pragmatic, grounded in truth. The same attributes apply to her literal voice, a voice that you can hear directly in (off the top of my head) Courtney Love, P.J. Harvey, Tori Amos, Gwen Stefani, and one Florence Welch. Many great women got their starts in the 70s (Reba, Patti Smith, Debbie, Emmylou) and it's great that Stevie is representing them all.
Oh I just realized this had started up again! Lots to catch up on but I'll just make some quick notes.
Very happy to see Dusty Springfield did in fact make it! (Enjoyed the acknowledgement to my post haha). I always loved her songs growing up because my mom was such a fan. "Son of a Preacher Man" and "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" get pretty regular play from me.
Also, while I didn't put her on my list and quite frankly didn't even think of her, I'm happy with Gwen Stefani's placing. But more importantly, I LOVE that you chose "Running" as one of the songs to showcase for her. It might be my favorite ND song actually (so underrated), and I love how her voice sounds on it.
Ummm she's okay...Not Top 10 deserved but as madonnas said..better than Rihanna
Very much deserving of top ten placement. One of the most imitated and inimitable vocalists, male or female, of the past half-century. And vocally, what she does on Gypsy ... I have no words.

madonnas, you ready for number seven?
I get what you mean but she could be on the 11-20 range for me though she's a Legend
I think most of her fans gave her a really high amount of points.
But either way I'm glad she's this high... I'm okay with Mimi, Beyonce, hell, I'll accept the fact that Whitney beat her...
But Xtina?
True.
Yeah I'm glad she's this high. Admittedly I don't think she's a fantastic singer... She does fantastic considering English isn't her primary language but now I think about it, she harmonises so well and uses her voice so well she is a great singer. I wouldn't be happy if Mariah and Whitney didn't beat her though.
I think Beyonce should be placing now. Not to be controversial, but I don't think she's one of the 6/7 best singers ever.
People legitimately think Christina is a better singer than Björk?
You're so easy.
I meant the woman you've been railing about for a few pages.
Taking it back to 2002 ...
7. Kelly Clarkson
Points Received: 195
Let's be blunt about this. Of today's "Vocal Trinity," Kelly is ... the most technically talented. She has the easiest access to all parts of her range, and she knows how to use them - a certain screamer from Pennsylvania by way of Staten Island can't say the same thing.
But that's not all. She's grown so much.
Take a look at this:
Whoa. That rush into the suprahead voice is rough and melodically imprecise; it makes no sense to what the song is all about.
Fast forward ten years:
****ting. ****TING. And all with beautiful interpretative quality.
Kelly can do it all. Folk, jazz, big band, gospel, R&B, rock, country. She can do it all! She does it well, also.
