Some of these projections in this thread are very optimistic. $50 million domestic gross? When the top concert film (domestic) has only grossed $73, suggesting a film that's slated to open with less than half of Bieber's opening weekend will finish with roughly 70% of Bieber's total is pretty much baseless.

That said, I'm not surprised. Despite the aggressive promotional campaign, as I said when the movie was first announced, Katy just doesn't have the type of fanbase to make something limiting like a concert movie a success. Promo doesn't create stans.

Seriously Katy is like almost 30 and makes somewhat suggestive songs. Bieber gets to pull in all the screaming girls but I doubt any fathers are going to be taking their little. Boys to see Katy Perry's glitter fest.

They just talked about it on the radio here. Some parents don't want their young boy children fixated on female stars out of fear of homosexuality.

It was not a good idea to make a 3D movie, it's too soon and if you compare her fanbase to Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana or even Bieber.

But I think it helped the sales for her songs, the promotion I mean.

As I stated earlier (and one poster just couldn't understand basic logic), this should have been a DVD release and not the theater release it is now. Paramount thought they could cash in on her popularity, but as the Kats said themselves, there is a very small fan base. I mean, I know they're trying to placate their anxiety, but it also sabotages the film's expectations. If there truly is a small fan base, then why gamble on a theatrical release when a DVD release would have yielded a smaller budget and better opportunity to earn back the budget. What's the point in trying to cash in on the fan base if Paramount and Katy knew that the fan base was limited from the get-go? Isn't that just setting herself up for failure?

I didn't even know the Jonas' had a movie. o_O Their marketing budget musta been low as hell.

I'm not surprised. This isn't a teenage movie like Miley/Justin/Jonas etc.
It's a female adult popstars life, it's obviously going to have less success.
I'm still positive that this is more than what other popstars like Rihanna, Nicki, Britney, Xtina etc would do.
I can't see any female popstars out RN that can surpass this.. Maybe Adele b/c everything she touches turns gold.

They will get the profit back once it goes to DVD and also it's not like the whole movie was a dissapoinment since it's helping album & singles so Katy doesn't lose at the end of it
