Of course it matters. An artist who takes 2 years to get gold when another can get one in 3 weeks is much different.

If you have a perfect balance between speed and longevity, you're golden (pun not intended).

Too much speed = you'll die out fast.
Too much longevity = not happening unless you're Adele.

Success so relative... I mean let's say Rihanna released a single that sold around 500k it's a complete different thing to if maybe Bella Thorne did it. For Bella it would be a huge success but for Rihanna it would be a huge flop. So you have to look at the bigger picture, compare the amount of promo, how the single was dealt with and the person's fame level.

With all those factors included I would not say Demi's singles were flops by any means.
