Yes, it's entirely possible that a creature completely alien to our concept of what a mermaid is exists at the bottom of the ocean. But that is not a mermaid, and you might be better served to ask whether or not the possibility of intelligent life under the sea is, indeed, a possibility.

I can't believe you actually think the concept of mermaids is recent and has been invented by Disney.

Humans devoloping a sixth finger is much similar than changing international organs.
The only logical way they could escape exposure is by living in the deep depths of the ocean.

Read the whole damn thread. It's all theoretical, if they couldn't go down that damn deep they wouldn't, we are theorising that they evolved the ability to do so just like other aquatic mammals. Not to mention your total lack of knowledge of deep sea animals, when in total blackness they rely on other senses as unless they have their own light source there is no way to physically see in the dark.
|
I'm on my phone, I don't have time to go back through and read all 10 pages of your damn thread.
You asked if mermaids exist. If you dont want to talk about mermaids and you're actually asking about any type of sentient species existing at the ocean's depths, then you should indicate so because when you ask about mermaids you conjure up and image of Ariel, which would simply not be able to exist at the bottom of the ocean. What you are arguing is not a mermaid, it's something else.

Mermaids do not have to look like ****ing Ariel. Disney didn't beget the concept of a mermaid.

Mermaids are NOT less far-fetched than religion
When people are religious, it's because they think someone has created earth and animals and eventually humanity.
Who in their right mind believes in mermaids?

i have 3 kidneys, rapid change in organ structure/amount is actually possible...basically any mutation is possible just not highly probable.

Not really, unless you tell it to like a 6 year old.

If you can't be bothered reading it then i can't be bothered repeating myself, I'd stop until you have informed yourself if I were you. Then we can have an informed discussion.

REPOST:
How on earth is it impossible for a humanoid creature to develop aquatic features over the course of a million years? I'm not saying it happened, is happening or will happen. I'm just saying that given the theory of evolution, yes, it could. If food on land suddenly became scarce humans could start becoming aquatic. Just like how some scientists are predicting humans will evolve and develop six fingers. Because of natural selection, they are adapting to their environment, and HYPOTHETICALLY it is possible for a land to water adaption to occur.
And again, you're arguing against the likeliness of it happening. I don't know why, but you're having difficulty accepting the theory of evolution and why it happens.

Mermaids sound very logical. If a species evolved for millions of years into us humans outside of the oceans, then why wouldn't other microorganisms evolve into some sort of intellectual, human-like fish and stayed in the water?

You clearly don't hear yourself. Believe whatever you want, but it is indeed more farfetched than an aquatic humanoid.

We never said they wouldn't, couldn't or haven't.
