A belter supreme, and maybe should have been a bigger star than she was. Fun fact: When I was a kid, I would try to hold out the end note of White Rabbit. Couldn't do it as well as she could.
The ladies list has been fantastic so far, honestly. Grace Slick is just the latest choice that I love. Her voice, especially in her younger days, could move mountains.
It's hard to believe that Jill dropped her debut only twelve years ago; it seems like her voice has been here forever. A boundless, agile singer, Jill combines almost eerily exact jazz phrasing and scatting with modern R&B and hip-hop sensibilities. Jill said she marveled at the "bird" Christina Aguilera has in her throat - well, Jill's honey bee has bite to it. That's what makes it, and her, beautiful.
I do like her voice, though her music is sometimes iffy. I hope that means miss Badu makes this list (seeing as everyone likes her better).
