Eminem "Singled out for criticism, for being a white rapper"
Quote:
His songs may be littered with gay slurs and anti-women references, but Eminem says he is not homophobic.
'I don't have any problem with nobody, you know what I mean,' he told Anderson Cooper in a revealing interview on TV show 60 Minutes. 'Like, I'm just....whatever.'
The 37-year-old rapper said he believed he had been singled out for criticism, due to being a white rapper.
I felt like I was being attacked,' he said. 'Is it because of the colour of my skin? Is it because of that you are paying more attention?
'Because there are certain rappers that do and say the same thing that I'm saying and you don't hear anyone saying anything about that. I didn't just invent saying offensive things.'
The star gave Cooper a tour around the tough Detroit neighbourhood where he grew up, revealing he was sometimes subjected to playground violence.
'I would change schools two, three times a year and that was probably the roughest part,' he said about his family's constant moving during his childhood.
'[I got] beat up in the bathroom, beat up in the hallways, shoved in the lockers, just, for the most part, being the new kid.
Oh please, he's PRAISED for being a White rapper. White kids finally could enjoy rap music without being called a wigger. Eminem is one of the best rappers alive, but the industry is SO racist and that's why he's the only rapper selling these days. They promote him as "long-suffering", "inspirational" and "meaningful", while they promote Black rappers these days as a bunch of ghetto hoodrats. But then again, when you have people like Waka Flocka out, then you can see where it's coming from.
But people like J.Cole and Diggy Simmons need more spotlight.

Well put
There's a reason why Eminem is big worldwide, while other rappers aren't

^ yes i agree, he has an advantage, i definelty think it helped being white, (with white kids who liked rap but didn't want to be called for it.) but because it's also because he's white i think that urban don't generally play his songs.
He's also amazing talented and prodcues great records so is deservant of his success, he's the only famous white rapper.

Well I think you guys are right along with Eminem. Although he got a bunch of support because he was white - he also got double the backlash. People rioted outside of his house with picket signs for christs sakes - I think he was saying he was just saying stuff a lot of rappers were (using words like ****** and etc.. Although many rappers in the mainstream weren't actually doing that lol) but he got singled out because of his popularity - which traces back to his skin color lol.
Don't get me wrong - I think he's hugely talented, but obviously a bit overrated because he wouldn't sell NEARLY as much as he did if he wasn't white. If any other rapper dropped an album like Encore or Relapse I guarantee you it wouldn't hit platinum lol, so although it has it's amazing perks - Eminem is right on some level too - he got a lot of backlash back in the day lol...But it's weird - because it seemed like he liked it, which is why he kept on doing it more and more....
But also...I do think that if another rapper like Kanye West or Jay-Z dropped a song along the likes of Superman and actually directed it at one of their famous ex-girlfriends...They wouldn't get off as easily as Eminem did. I mean this guy had a track leak of him TRASHING black girls and he still got off scotch free and had his **** album Encore go platinum (sorry Diamond lol smh), so he really shouldn't be complaining.
