Well I hear that a lot of Catholic people (and even many living in Western countries with catholic-ised families) still eat fish after going vegetarian because traditionally on days that (land)-meat isn't consumed, fish is still eaten because it's to respect the animals that were in the manger with Jesus - which is funny because
apparently Catholics allows fish on Fridays because the pope who instituted that rule was a fisher before being elected.
Another explanation could be that culinarily speaking, "meat" describes mammalian skeletal muscle mass (poultry covering aviatory animals and seafood covering a large range of oceanic life). So I think many are confused by the
no-flesh mantra of vegetarianism, instead incorrectly understanding it to mean
no-"meat".
I'm sure there's quite a few reasons though!
