They're probably just waiting for his face to fully heal or something. It's not like he injured his legs or arms. It was a serious accident, but a lot of his coworkers have said that he is doing well.
I think James is moreso reffering to articles like this that are making it seem like his injuries are so bad that Teen Wolf and Maze Runner's futures are in jeapordy:
