It's actually being played more than The Sims 3 was at the exact same time according to player stats

They haven't needed a Celebrity Endorsement to pick up sales either.
The base game was panned, but the EP's are on par with Sims 3.
It's still an improvement fundamentally, they just need to build on it a lot more.
The base game was underwhelming, but because we can have proper community lots instead of Rabbit Holes etc. it means they can do so much more.
They even said they could have worlds located inside buildings, so a Neighborhood could be inside a Shopping Mall, or Cruise Ship.
The base game had a world inside a cave.
They are just taking too long to take advantage of it. Mostly because EA changed CEO for The Sims late last year, which must be the reason for everything slowing down.
Right now though, they have barely done enough to use the game engine to their advantage.
I honestly have gone back to The Sims 2 until a proper EP comes out.
Get Together was great, but we need a traditional EP for something familiar.
