With 350k albums sold by ANTI, the RIAA has given the album a 2x platinum plaque. This obviously has caused a stir in conversations by many stans whos faves have stuck with the more traditional way of earning these certifications. Which is by ACTUALLY selling 2 million copies.
Do you think the RIAA has lost its credibility for this?
You guys are so clingy.
Why can't yall let sales go?
If RIAA still used their old system only like 6 albums would go plat a year.
Imagine 2025 where sales are completely dead.
Those numbers were outdated, the receipts thread had it at over 400k and certifications are based on shipments (+ streams and track sales), not pure album sales (they were NEVER based on sales).
And Billboard constantly changing its rule to accommodate streaming is credible? RIAA is changing with the times as is EVERYTHING else.
Rihanna and RIAA win.

The rules dont really seem to apply to all artists. Thats kind of the problem. Also there is no concrete formula established so all of these certifications are practically made up. Thry have no logic or support.

I was using Rihanna as an example, this is not only happening with Rihanna

So shouldnt Adeles 25 album be like 22x platinum by now then. Why isnt it?
The counting free copies thing makes the certification less representative of success, but that's not their fault. They count shipments, not sales. Those free copies would've been counted even before streaming was included.
