“I think the word ‘twink’ is pejorative,” Olly says. “There’s something endemic about the gay community where we praise masculinity more than anything else.”
“[Twinks are] powerless – they’re skinny and weak – but twinks can be pretty and cute.”
The 25-year-old adds that that he wants to be able to “feel sexy” with the body he has.
“I shouldn’t have to have muscles or look a certain way for society to say I’m sexy, but nobody’s really stood in the way of people taking my clothes off if I want to.”
He's right though. This is the same reason I disagree with attempts to reclaim the f-word; it's only ever used by gays when referring to gays that are perceived as "unmasculine" or "less masculine," which is internalizing homophobia in the community.
The word twink is used in a derogatory way so often on ATRL.
"You white twinks wouldn't understand", "Shut your mouth twink" and etc
People seem to feel superior when labelling someone as a twink... it's so pretentious.
I don't really view it as insulting if used in a joking mannerism or between friends, but there are a lot of people who use it in a way to genuinely try and put someone down & insult them.

all of this
We know there's a difference between using the word "twink" as a descriptor for someone's body type. What Olly is talking about is more about the way it's used as an insult or a way to make guys with certain body types feel less-than. In the same way that gays like to hurl around the word "bottom" as an insult.
Okay yeah I do get where y'all are coming from, a lot of people do try and shame people and use twink as an insult. But I've never been offended by it .
Perhaps we should reclaim the word. Embrace being a twink.
