I was just thinking of getting an Amazon Kindle. E-books are way cheaper than regular textbooks and books. Plus in the case of textbooks they're way easier to carry around.
I love physical books though, but they're expensive I hate reading on my computer or smartphone. The Kindle seems like an ok alternative, not nearly as expensive as an iPad.
i own an kobo and thanks to it i read so much more now. i still prefer physical copies of books but often they're too heavy and I'm too lazy to carry them around whereas my kobo is super light and can store thousands of books. it weighs nothing and i can read in the dark without my eyes hurting (the light it emits is very different from an ipad) and it isn't a strain to read at all.
the books are cheaper plus as the other poster above mentioned, you can also find all the books on the web if you're okay with it. i personally don't recommend pirating books because the publishing world is in a bad place as it is but if you're looking for cheaper alternatives, you can always check out local libraries. loads of libraries offer overdrive, so you can basically read library books on your device!
I can't get into it as a regular thing but they're supposedly great for taking on vacation so you don't waste space with paperbacks in your luggage etc.
I like that Kindles and the like have birthed the whole self-publishing movement though, that's so cute.
nook is cheaper and better and lets you have pirated books

Op: I love my kindle but I find I only use it to read books for pleasure rather than those that are on my university reading lists. It's so much faster to flick through a book to find a quote ive bookmarked imo
100%. Obviously, it's nicer reading a physical book, but I find myself reading a lot more with a kindle. Plus, you can easily download books for free and read them; you can't exactly steal a book from a store with ease. If you're gonna get one, don't waste your money on the Fire - reading off the screen is just like reading of a PC. Get the Kindle Paperwhite or the Voyage (although I think the former is better). There's no screen glare and it's very easy to read on it for long periods without eye strain.
