Suicide Prevention (Resources; Where and how to get help)
This is a topic that is very serious + not easy to talk about in nature, please post & discuss with care.
So there's been a lot of suicide stories in the media lately; a majority of which are concerning teens (dare say still just kids) and their sexual orientation. I myself have had this topic hit close to home a couple times in the last few years and have heard/seen stories & articles pertaining to such a thing. It's sadly appearing to become a trend in our world today.
As human beings a lot of things in life are inevitable, but there's always a better day to come. How bad does life have to be for a kid age 15 to end it? Or how about the man age 47 who just lost his job, to only then end it, while he had someone at home waiting for him?
What, and more important who is he or she leaving behind? Even people socially classified as "loners" , "losers", "minorities" each individually have a life with people who truly do care for them.
I've decided to make this thread to discuss and share ways one can prevent suicide.
The first and foremost information resource which can be universally related to other countries & cultures here on ATRL is this site: http://www.cmha.ca/bins/content_page.asp?cid=3-101-102
The main idea is that one who may be or is committing suicide get the appropriate help he or she needs. Communication is such a critical process for the individual and the closely surrounding others to do first. Sometimes people need to do more than just vent to another ear, they need to let everything out that's bothering them in some way or shape. Either way someone needs to be ready to listen and respond appropriately towards the situation.
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline:
In the U.S., call 1-800-273-8255
***If you discuss about someone you personally know in this thread, please do not give any specifics as to who they are. Let's use the method as we did in the Elementary school program DARE: "I know someone who ..." "Currently I know John Doe, my other neighbor here at 555 Street is"

People become suicidal when the pain is greater than the coping resources. People seek suicide to feel 'relief' from pain, but 'relief' is a feeling, and when you're dead, you won't feel anything.
All of us have the moments when we are very depressed, but this feeling usually passes away, time heals everything.

I think EVERYONE has that kind of thoughts AT LEAST once in their lives. Even the smallest silliest things affect us deeply sometimes and we cant do anything about that. But everything passes, and everyone has SOMETHING to hold on to, even a little smile can be something to hold on to.
Dark moments come, and most of the times they come one after another and sometimes its just because when something bad happens, we are not in the same mood anymore and the tiniest thing affects us much more.
But the truth is, that if we hadnt this kind of bad moment we would never grow up or move on. Even if the first impression is to want to kill yourself, the bad situations are the ones that teach us the biggest and most important things in live. And from down there's only one way out.... and thats up... You always come out stronger from these situations.

One of the biggest concerns for suicidal people is that they're alone. And it's so easy to feel alone in today's world, especially as technology is slowly taking away face-to-face interaction and creating more opportunities to harm another person even if they're miles away.
But loneliness is not forever. It's a monster we each created, and what we create, we can destroy just the same. Don't EVER succumb to that fear - you can beat it. You can. You really can. Crazier things have happened.
Life has so much to offer, and you may not see them at the moment but then again that's one of life's greatest mysteries, is it not? That our futures are in our hands, yet we are blind to them for the moment. Don't just think about now. Think about what is to come. Think about what you're living for, and hold onto it as if the entire fate of humanity depended on that one thing.
God bless everyone.

It's a good idea, but it would only need a sticky if committing suicide was a blossoming trend on ATRL.
Sam, lovely post. But I think one of the pillars of suicidal thinking is that the person doesn't have anything to live for. They believe they have no future. You can't really change their thinking in that sense. But you could probably change their present behavior.

Comedy is quite the medicine and anti-depressant of negative/agitated feelings. Watching something you know you can get a laugh out of does wonders for a soul.

I swear time is another remedy to some other bad situations. It's also quite the therapy aid to broken/destroyed relationships for each person.

Truth. Our worst situations can actually have a positive affect on others and effect for ourselves. I lost my Grandma this summer to cancer (she was just around age 70), and honestly, she influenced me to be a bolder + braver guy. I also honestly feel I have changed as a person, friend, son, brother, bro, and even as a stranger since her diagnoses in 2009.

I absolutely agree with this. Life is what we make it. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with full fledged independence/being alone, but just don't be lonely. In today's ever expanding population, there are circles of people we can create and join in.
God Bless you Semáforo; best of life to you + everybody. : ]

Truth as well. Some people will actually completely refuse to change their perception (re his/her life) no matter what source of help or even prevention they're approached with.
And win/blessing alone for such an act not becoming a fad in this site...let alone our entire pop culture.

I've been here before. I really have never thought about "what if someone I know considers harming/ending themselves?" until it actually happened in my own personal life.
But the big thing going onward is having a sense of what to do if **knock on wood** something of this nature happens again.
